i have posted recently about my confidence issues with my mare. Have tried to sort these out but an incident today has completley changed my mind and i just want her gone. Have had her advertised for 3 weeks now and not one call. Am prepared to drop her price by a HELL of a lot of money as im not enjoying her and she is being wasted - plus paying out £400 a month for a horse you dont want to be around is just silly imho.

My question is - what do i do? how can i get her gone? sorry if this seems harsh but desperate times call for desperate measures - all suggestions are welcome

Can you post the link to the original advert? Sorry you are feeling like this, but totally understand that once your mind is made up you would like her gone - especially when she is costing you so much money to keep.
 
Your YO has a vested interest in you not selling her - £400 a month to be exact. If you want to sell her, you need to drop the price considerably. Nothing much is selling at the moment - TBH I would say she is worth about £2,500. Sorry if this seems harsh - but I am being honest and realistic.
 
tbh id accept £2k for her - i just want to get her to the right home x my old YO actually told me she was worth so much more than 4.5k and to advertise her at the full cost
 
In that case reword the advert and change the photos and advertise her at £2,500 ovno. You can advertise her on newrider and horsehunter free of charge as well as your local adtrader. By advertising her at a realistic price, you stand the chance of a quick sale.

I think you will need to drop your price. The other option would be to loan her for the summer get the loaner to take her to shows and then she would be worth that much maybe.

Horse prices have gone silly in recent years, and sometimes you loose money on a horse and its horrible. It may be worth trying to do a swap for an older horse that is priced around the 2500 mark. Sometimes people are up for it, as they may be able to produce your mare if you are finding her diffiuclt.


I considered doing this with my horse and contacted two people and they were both interested in doing a swap. It takes the hassle out of selling on both sides. In the end i decided to carry on with my mare, she is a similar age. Just turned five but she has only just been backed. She is highly strung and went through a period of rearing and i completely lost my bottle on her. But after a massive kick up the bum from my instructor im back on board and slowly getting more confident. Now Im looking forward to all the new experiences i'll have with my young horse.

As above, aren't you being a little unfair to potential buyers if she isn't as advertised? What has she done to scare you? PM me if you prefer, I know somebody who might be interested in her, but would appreciate knowing what has happened or gone wrong.
 
she is completley as advertised x its just me really - have completley lost my confidence to the point where i really dont want to ride anything and am thinking of giving it up full stop

she hasnt done anything really - apart from being a typical youngster. she would make the right person a fantanstic mare

Last year both myself and a friend were desperate to sell our ponie, he gave use both a fair price.

The man was really nice and we saw where they went. I saw the man this year and he said the haflinger I had went to a police women in leeds!

It may be a last resort, but as far as dealers go I had a good experience with them. I think if you dropped her price to 2000 you would def sell her, but you could do with a picture of her under saddle.
 
sorry to hear that your having a crap time with your horse and "just want her gone" what issues are you having with your horse!! can some one try to help you? as you brought her, so there must be some thing you liked about her. failing that, i no a few peolpe who are selling there horse's atm, and nothing seems to be selling for the price that the buyer wants!!
 
I have just read your other post where you say she got you off and your trainer off in the same way. What does she do to get you off?
I do understand your feelings and think you are right to sell her as lack of confidence and a young horse is not usually a good mix. Youngsters often do go through a stage like this but it needs working through. If you don't have the confidence it is a big no no.
I had a horse run over on the road - Florin. It was a few years ago now but i still feel sick at the thought of takeing a horse on the road. So much so i don't take the youngsters myself as they would sense my panic.
Being absolutely honest i do think you do need to drop the price and also get some good photo's. At that price and looking at the photo's i would skip past. There are so many horses for sale you realy do need some super duper pics that will stand out and a description to make people realy take interest.
Don't lose heart. Think positive. You have made a decision now carry it out to the best you can by realy promoting her. As someone else said your yard owners interest is in not loseing your money.
Don't give up all together. Do you have any friends with older horses you could get your confidence back with? Do you have enough help with your mare? Do you know of anyone that would take her and work with her to sell her for a cut/payment?

Jo, why not PM someone like Henryhorn or JM7 and ask for some help with the advert? Both are very successful at selling horses when needed.

She looks like a lovely mare - but (sorry) your photo's are awful, and perhaps more could be made of the text. It looks like you've made no effort at all.

The head shot is very pretty. But why not get her out of the stable - pop a smart bridle on her, and stand her up properly without tack on so that you can actually see what she looks like. Why have a photo with a western sadde on? What market are you aiming her at??
 
There is a dealer in North Yorks (search for Judi Thurloe Sports horses) who are pretty good. We got two of ours from there - she has a lovely yard and a decent attitude - I think that might be reasonably close to you (depeding on what side of Leeds you are) Failing that, Timbertops used to be just off the A1 and they buy/sell a lot - I got another horse from them.

I think if you want rid quickly, a dealer is prob your best bet - unless you send her to a yard to be reschooled and sold on?

Then loan/buy a horse that is not a young TB - I don't have anything against TBs, its just that if they are going to nap/be naughty - they tend to do things a lot faster than other horses!

My friend maybe up for re-schooling her? She is very good with quick, young horses.

I think £4,500 is very expensive for such a young horse (unless she's really talented), especially if you are unable to show her off to her full potential.

If your paying £400 a month livery i'd be inclined to send her to a decent dealer who will be able to school her and sell her on. I paid £400 for a months full livery when I sold my old horse. They schooled him, got him loading and advertised him after 3wks and he was sold be the 4th.
 
You're very brave being able to make this decision, I went through the same sort of thing with my WB but it took me years to decide that it just wasn't working. You should really consider a reputable dealer, they might not give you the full asking price but they would probably buy and her and spned some time bringing her on before selling her, it might be just what the horse needs.
 
Very brave decision to make. Couldn't you put her on sales livery somewhere? From what I've heard though, horses aren't really selling at the moment.
 
Have you tried selling her to a dealer? They will give you a LOT less money but at least she will be off your hands

but the ad isn't selling her and neither are the pictures, she is a very pretty sec D but nothing is jumping off the page at me shouting 'look at me, want me , buy me!!! ' do you have any better pics, could you get any? one of her showing off her paces which I bet are fab would catch someones eye. At the moment it's just an ad for an overpriced young horse. Give the ad some Ooomph and drop the price to 2.8k ono and i think you'll get some interest.

Tbh she sounds like a sweet little amre and you need to make sure that you get her the right home. Welsh D's often make cracking jumpers or dressagers, and would make a nice riding club horse. She is only four and so i feel its a little unfair to just say, lets just get rid and pass her onto a dealer as she does deserve a nice home so you can make sure that she enjoys life! I would say, drop the price, re word the advert, advertise her wherever you can. Does she hack etc? And put a confo pic in, she looks gorge.

someone has mentioned it but do consider Judi Thurloe (google her). She has all types of horses and would be interested in your mare I don't doubt.

I agree with the others on price. My instructor has a very nice gelding 15.2, jumping up to a metre & well establised - currently she cannot sell him (he's going for a song). Also I cannot sell my yearling - noone is buying in Yorks atm.

Change the photos & drop the price but I would consider judi or even Juliet at white rose horses who could also sell her on.

Your yard owner is deluded if they think that horse is worth 4K plus - its worth about 2.5 K at best - if you want rid - get it up for 1800 and advertise it as a good summer project - no way that you will get 4K for it esp from stingy Yorkshire Tykes like me !! ha ha

I really hope horse goes to a good home and you get your confidence back but one bit of advice PLEASE dont go to a dealer and let them talk you into swapping her for something else - I think if you are thinking about having a break from horses - do so - go on holiday and come back bright and breezy and maybe pootle about on some weekend horsey courses so there is lots of support and no pressure etc??

She looks like a pretty mare tho!! xx
 
Hi, sorry to hear about your problems, what is the horse doing to unnerve you how did she get you off? I may be looking for another youngster as my youngster has sadly been very poorly and now may also have a back problem (being xrayed etc tomorrow!) so potentially may be out of ork for much longer.
I have a Sec D x TB and they do tend to be very very sharp and highly intelligent.
 
If you didn't want to sell to a dealer and you're paying £400/month in livery why don't you send her to be professionally schooled?!

My young section D has just come back from being schooled, it cost £120/wk for full livery and he was ridden 6 days a week. He was there for 3 weeks in total and came back an absolute dream. He wasn't naughty in the first place but I didn't have time to put the flat work in so paid someone to do it and it was worth every penny!

It's really worth doing and justifies a higher price, if I was paying £4,500 for a horse I'd expect it to work in an outline and have the basics!
 
I was in a similar situation last Autumn, when I finally made the decision to sell my previous horse.

I advertised him for £7.5k, someone I knew agreed to pay that for him but then unfortunately he failed the vetting because a bone spavin showed up on the xrays. We'd been competing BD the day before the vetting with no sign of any lameness and he'd passed the flexion test etc. so I had no idea he even had a bone spavin (or to be honest what one was!). The vet couldn't tell if it was fused or not and the buyer decided not to buy, which was fair enough.

Once I'd made the decision to sell I just wanted him gone, I didn't want to have time to change my mind plus I resented paying £450 a month livery on a horse I no longer enjoyed riding.

On the way back from the vets I txtd everyone I knew, told them about the failed vetting and said I'd sell him for £2.5k to anyone who could take him off my hands by the weekend. He was sold the next day to someone from my yard.

I took a huge hit of the price but it was totally worth it because I didn't have the stress of owning a horse that had really started to test my nerves. I spent the Winter without a horse (so got to lay in on the cold mornings !) and used the 6 months livery I saved to buy a fabulous (and much more suitable) horse in the Spring.

From a number of post I've read on here recently it does seem like many horses just aren't selling. I think drop the price in an effort to sell as quickly as possible (to a dealer if necessary). You can't put a price on your confidence and you'll soon make back any losses on saved livery.

No offence but you know the pics are awful so get better ones! These are what attracts people to your horse and makes him stand out above others - with bad pics, he just blends in with all the rest.

Also, Id like to know what shes done under saddle - is she working in an outline? Is she hacking? Is she popping poles or jumping small fences yet?
