Hi There,

I am after peoples thoughts on wether you think I am dong the right thing. I have a 23yr Welsh cob who at the begining of jan this year suffered a servere strain of her SDFT and has been on box rest up until now. The vet came out last week and was very pleased with her progress and said I could start to turn her out again (I was/am over the moon) I have been a stressed out mum over the last 6 months thinking I had let her down and feeling so bad she was having to stay in.
Anyway she is now being turned out in a small paddock by herself :) (she can see other horses which tends to keep her calm) So this is my question I have been turning her out in the morning and bringing her in half way through the day for a few hours so she can rest her leg and get out of the sun then turning her out for a few hours in the evening. Is this daft am I being an over cautous mum should I just turn her out all day and leave her be? The vet said just to turn her out all day. I worry about her all the time is this normal? I worry when she is out that she might be stressing/running round and then I worry that she is fed up when she is in! I am driving myself and properly my gorgeous pony mad. I just don't want her to go through anything like that again. Does anyone else question what they do all the time and worry about the slightest things? Or am I need of some serious therapy!

Sorry for the essay.

My 21 year old did his SFDT in January and the vet is coming in two weeks time to rescan him. I am hoping we will get the go ahead to start walking him out in hand and hopefully let him have a chomp of grass too. He has been on strict box rest and has been very good although he has started trotting round it at dinner time.

If you vet thinks it is OK to leave your girl out all day I would be tempted to do that. However, with the recent weather I too would be bringing my boy in during the middle of the day (hoping we get to that stahe) - I would hate to think that we would start running round being bothered with flies.

Did your vet leave you with any sedation to give?

Hi Eggs,

He didn't leave any sedation for her but she is usually quite calm unless she can't see another horse or if something makes her jump. I just worry all the time that she is going to do it again and I'll go back to her feild and find her hopping lame again its my worst nightmare. I hope your horse gets good news when the vet comes out again. Its so tough when they have to stay in for so long.
