I will try and be brief.Had a horse, was on a yard and had same instructor for over 12 years.Horse needed retiring (he is doing very well) and I bought a new young cob mare. She was only 4 but very quiet and I thought I had back up from yard, who break horses and instructor.Things didn't work out but cob remained very quiet and rideable.
My husband was in and out of hospital, usually on a blue light and everything very stressful.I was struggling as well a bit.
Things came to a head when cob started to be difficult to ride. They had been feeding her from double nets and she had repetative strain injury.Physio out, neck treated. Horse became a nice quiet ride again.I decided to move yards.
Current yard a dealers yard with a few liveries.Quiet and horse settled well.Instructor and I parted company regretfully and for reasons I don't want to talk about on an open forum.
The problems are that I don't think the yard is suitable for me.They are all very pleasant and there is no malice but I don't think they understand the needs of someone like me who is older and perhaps needs a bit more assistance. On top of that the yard is very quiet, I don't know how to go about finding a new instructor and I feel very bored really.
Spanish trainer said I could go to him, amazing yard but he may want to move as he has been living in a caravan all summer,he wants somewhere where his wife and baby can come from Spain and live with him.We get on very well BUT he went to Spain for a quick break, had an accident and broke his leg.He is now out of action for 2 months.
I have a holiday booked soon so may wait until that is over but I don't know whether to take a chance on Spanish trainer or look for another yard, another trainer.Out of practice with that.A few years ago I would have managed all of this easily.

I don't think they have the time really.Young family, many horses. In all fairness she did tell me before I went there that hers is not a livery yard as such.Any faults as regards that are mine.
Then it probably isn't the right place for you.
Often local horsey groups on Facebook are a good place to ask for livery .
Do you need assistance with handling/yard work or riding? If it's only the former, you could always look for a recommended freelancer to come and give you a hand if the yard allows it?

Where in the country are you? Perhaps people can recommend places here ?
It sounds like you might benefit from livery where experienced staff handle your horse so he gets trained out of bad habits ,.and then the YO/manager teaches you how to handle him and also ride him .
I've got a friend here in the SW who runs a yard like this and she is just fantastic at what she does.

Yep I know some yards in Cheshire though I’m actually in Buxton, Derbyshire. Do you want part/assisted livery or full livery? (I assume you don’t want DIY if you are wanting more support). What facilities are you after? Do you want trainers onsite or just a yard happy for external trainers to visit? Ycbm probably knows even more yards round there than me.

Thank you for that.Full livery definitely. I would like the freedom to choose my own trainer I think.

Which side of Cheshire are you?

Oddly part of the issue with full livery is that there often aren't other owners hanging around to give you a quick hand like there are at a DIY place.

There are plenty of decent livery yards, I think if you're clear about what you need they should tell you if it'll work. Sounds like a larger one would be better, more likely to be someone passing by when you need them.

I think a move to a more suitable yard will be beneficial. Also have you considered a sharer to lighten the load. Good luck.
I wouldn't want a sharer, not with a young horse. Agree, a more suitable yard would be more supportive. Sorry OP, I'm miles from you, so cannot suggest anywhere. Good luck, you sound like you've had an awful lot on your plate. Hope you have many years if fun with your young horse.

North Cheshire. My last yard was medium sized and had enough staff to help with things like holding a horse while you got on for instance.I would like something like that.Sadly the culture of the yard changed .Too many problems for me there in the end.

Who is the lady on here that has invested in a new place in cheshire recently? She post's photos with those lovely viaducts that bring back childhood memories. Would that be a useful contact for OP.

There's a yard near Lymm called Kay Lane Livery. I don't know if they have any vacancies or not, but could be worth a try.

Kay Lane livery comes highly recommended by people I know. The yard I'm on is very large (S Manchester/N Cheshire) but may also be appropriate as there are a number of freelancers who offer full livery and there are people around from 6am until 10pm all the time with a general 'happy to help' type culture. There are a number of retired owners who keep horses there - I just rarely see them as I'm in the late night after work crew :p

Royston Sport Horses has a new yard in the Mobberley area. Grazing was very muddy back in March but the horses were out so they believe in turnout. YO is very supportive.
