I have never had one out before but my new pony as been neglected in the past and tried everything to avoid being mounted, so its dentist/back man/saddler etc before I go any further.

So what will he do? xx

Is your "back man" a physio osteo or chiro and have they asked you for vets permission to treat your pony as they should before they do anything. They will all work in a different way, I use a physio and this is roughly what she does on a first visit.

Usually they will ask you lots of questions about the pony, age, history any issues etc, they should then see it walk and trot in hand on a good level surface to assess soundness, they often want to see it go back and turn tightly and possibly lunged. They will then run their hands over the whole body and may stretch the legs to see how stiff they are, or not.
Once they have done the assessment they then start treatment as required, working on areas that are stiff or sore, the horses usually enjoy it once they realise it feels good but may get a bit difficult if very sore so do not be alarmed if this happens.
You should get told how to do stretches or exercises to continue the work done, my physio usually comes back about 10 days later to check the horse has responded well to the treatment and do a few extra bit of work if required.
The whole visit usually takes 1- 11/2 hours.

A report is sent to the vet giving details of treatment given and how the horse has responded to the treatment.
