Im thinking of showing my mare for the first time this summer, it will be the first time for me and her! First off Im going to enter a class which is specifically for horses who are in their first year of showing under saddle. It says 'will be judged on manners and potential' or something like that.
Can anyone give me an idea of what we will have to do or what will be required of us??
Thanks so much

Walk, trot and canter on each rein and a nice square halt infront of the judge at the end. They will be looking for willingness, manners, freedom of movement, that sort of thing.

I took my mare in one last year (it was her first show) - in the trot stage something scared her and she did a power trot round the ring (I couldn't stop her

) - we came third because the judges loved her impulsion...

that happened to me a few yrs back i did the inhand & linx was unplaced due to being rather steady but i did the ridden (same judge) & i was provisionally 8th or 9th. During our individual show he did a lovelly canter so i thought ok lets do it on the other rein (normally dont as . . ) he tanked off thorugh a gap in the line up. she pulled us upto 6th place! her words "he has spark"
