i've decided that my 3year old section d is getting a little too fat. i've restricted his grass, he is out 24/7 on a nearly bare paddock. he is currently being fed 1/4 scoop of herbal quiet mix and a handful of chaff but he doesn't really eat it. do you think he would be better off on baileys lo cal or something like safe and sound or not fed at all?

My fatty gets soaked hay, restricted turnout, a handful of chaff to go with his topspec anti-lam

But he's 6 and in light to medium work. As a 3yr unless your showing I'd just feed balancer, personally

One of my ggs seems to survive on fresh air so at this time of year. I also have them out 24/7 and have always used allen and page slim and healthy as it contains basic requirements and thats it. Their website gives all info.
Hope this is helpful!

My 'fatty' 17.2hh TB/ID is wearing a bucket in the field, out for 6-7 hours. Has one large hay net with small holes and 1 scoop of hifi 2 times a day with his equine gold and joint sup in it. Hes in the process of getting dressage fit as started competing again.
He is slimming down but is still a bit too fat. A few more runs in the lorry to comps will drop some off him hopefully!

My fatty WB mare is out 24/7 and is fed nothing. She is worked twice a day!

Occasionally I feed her Hi-Fi Good doer. It is basically flavoured straw so not much nutritional value.

I use equibites - iirc it is one per 50kg of weight, and apparently they contain everything a pony should need (on top of forage obviously!)

Feed the rather fat Appy, hay and apples with restricted grass, garlic and half slice of bread with marmite. She is now streadily loosing weight.

Well in my opinion a 3yr old Sec D should not need feeding any hard feed at all...just perhaps a supplement in some chaff. My lad (Welsh D) lives quite happily on a paddock where he only has bits of grass to pick at as it is growing, plenty of ad lib hay to keep him munching and two handfuls of chaff with an all round vit/min supplement in it. He is worked and has done up to 20 mile pleasure rides each week with a further 25 miles hacking in the week on this quite happiliy with bags of energy.

i feed my fatty dengie hi fi lite it is a chaff with no sugar coating but has all vits and mins and everything else he needs. there are hardly no calories at all low sugar starch anf fructans and there the things you want to stay away from if he has hay make sure it is soaked to get all the goodness out!

my pony gets fat so he goes on restricted grazing.

he has oat straw (low calories and keeps him munching)

and also because he cant get all the minerals from the plants i give him equimore no.1 (herb supplement) ideally in half a scoop of blue chip lami light but my parents go a bit mental when i suggest buying blue chip so it usually ends up being hi-fi light.
