I can only tell you what I fed my horse which was years ago, that had liver damage which was viosorbin { think ive spelt it right} its a tonic it sorted his liver out.

My 5 yr old had a virus last year/earlier this year that affected his liver. I had to feed a liver support which the vets provided (along with a month of antibiotics) and also milkthistle. I also got a liver support supplement from Feedmark. His last set of bloods (a month ago) came back normal so I have kept him on the milk thistle for another couple of months and the Feedmark liver support supplement.

Feed wise he was kept the same; hi fi lite and a tiny bit of fibre nuts (literally a handful) and speedibeet although there are more specific things that you can feed.

My mare has had raised lver enzymes a few years ago. She was put on a low protein and no oil diet. Due to complications with her having allergies to nearly everything the only thing we could feed her was speedibeet and micronised barley. This was fed as that was what my vet asked me to feed her. Last year she was given a clean bill of health bit we think it was due to her moving areas but we still feed her to support her liver incase it comes back at any point.

Thanks for your replies.

I should get results today, this horse seems to have an allergy problem so ? liver function

He is on Hi fi lite, speedi beet and horse and pony nuts I had started to include a conditioning feed D and H calm and condition which would have replaced the speedi beet and horse and pony nuts but I am on hold with that in case it is not the best thing to give

You need to feed high fibre, low (but quality) protein and low oil. Fibre pencils are usually a good choice. You can add some barley in to help with his weight. Make sure you feed the pencils at the recommended rate to ensure he is getting all of his vitamins and minerals, especially as he is recovering from illness. I wouldn't use a conditioning feed as these are usually higher in protein compared to fibre pencils. Also add in milk thistle and apple cider vinegar to blood detoxify the blood.

Oh and lots of hay!
