Hi my boy is 16, in light-medium work and during summer is kept slim and fed fast fibre and hi Fi light, he has started to lose condition and has been changed to FF and Alfa oil which I usually feed in winter months, he is lacking a bit of energy and would like peoples opinions for a low starch feed

I feed Alphabeet and alpha oil to my laminitic bad doer. I also add a glug of vegetable oil to it.

During winter I also feed Copra Meal by Coolstance which is good for adding condition.

Laminitic pony at my yard was underweight earlier this year and they fed fairly large amount quantities of Fast Fibre with a bit of Alfa Oil and has put condition on her well

I was using fast fibre for my lami but as she has liver disease had to take her off it. Fast Fibre isn't good for liver disease.

But Fast Fibre for lami is ok just make sure you don't give too much.

There was a thread recently where a member found its not a total hay replacer.

Is he on ab lib forage? That would be the first step, if not.

I'd then be trying some micronised linseed along with a 'lite' balancer - topspec or Baileys are good.

I'd up the hay quantity first, soaking the hay if necessary to remove excess sugars. I'd also look at unmolassed beet as this is usually quite calorific but low in sugars and starch. For example, Speedibeet has 12.4MJDE/kg dry weight, which is a similar calorie count to many conditioning nuts and mixes, but only has about 5% sugar and negligible levels of starch. By comparison, Fast Fibre is quite low calorie at 8 MJDE/kg.

I have a lami prone exmoor. He's also needing more condition and is on Speedibeet, linseed, brewer's yeast and some slim-chaff to bulk it out a bit. It's a heavy bucket, but he does graze it, rather than gobble it, which is partly the reason for using it.
