Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a beautiful 16.3, 11 year old Oldenburg that had a very bad start in life, gelded at 5 and then taken away from his mum and sent off to work! Mind blown....spooky, wind sucks, lazy but no confidence at all!
He has eventually settled a bit after many years of firm but fair handling but now we are out competing he is so un-confident that he lacks in energy. He is not a good do er either. He is so forward in going backward, it uses up all his energy. I love him and really want to help him get thru this! Energy is the key but i want forward not upward/backward as he is already very good at that!
We are only asking a couple of Prelims once a wk but he is so lacking in any oomph, its so tiring, kicking him around the arena!
He is currently out 24/7, whilst the weather is fairly mild but well rugged, on ad lib still very green grass, lots of it....fed once a day, 4 mugs of tiger oats, 2 mugs of sugar beet, 1 stubbs scoop of Alfa A, half stubbs scoop of Baileys No4, 1 mug soya oil powder, 1 mug equilibra....
Is there any really good energy feed that you think may work on my LOW in CONFIDENCE horse, which i really do think is a factor, besides alcohol!! Any suggestions welcome.....

Ring Winergy or email, they are very good.Did you mean he was casterated at 5 years old and taken from his mum at the same time??? Who leave a 5 year old with his mother???

when i brought my horse back into work she lacked energy, i tried every feed under the sun and nothing helped. somene suggested soya oil with just some alfa a and it was great there was no negative energy. id recommend it to anyone.

i Know, he was kept with his mum and GD!! He has FABULOUS breeding, by Hohenstein, they were going to keep him as a stallion although he was wind sucking and confirmation faults???.......Poor boy.....

Well, he has been back from a very good 'professional dressage' loan home about 2 months, although he was 'IN' 20/7 with them and fed well, he still came back fairly lean. He is very slowly putting on weight, one of those horses who will never be fat! He is fairly fit, gets a couple of shortish hacks each wk, a 30 min school once or twice a wk, or on the walker for 45 mins or lunged 30 mins! has at least 2 days off a week!

Well , no advice Ms G but I hope you manage to get him sorted out , lots of knowledgeable people on here. I didn't know you still had him. Just wanted to say hello ;)
