I would really like some opinions on what to feed my loopy mare!! (loopy may be a little unfair on her i'm just a bit corss with her at the moment as she was a crank last night!)
She is 13.1 and weighs approx 355-60kgs ALL year round. she does not put weight on around the girth area - if she is allowed to get fat she puts it on further back in her belly.
I don't want her to loose any weight even though i know by the feed guidlelines she is at the higher end of ideal weight for her height she is a chunky monkey so should be heavier. She looks very trim at the moment, but does need to muscle up. Any CC also greatly rec'd!
She is worked on average...
Per week
Day off
Schooled 45 mins
Schooled 1 hour
Schooled 30-60mins
Day off
Hacked for 60-90mins lots of canter, xc jumping etc
Hacked road work 60-90 mins, trotting, hill work etc
I have a lesson once or twice a month, through the winter compete or have drag/mock hunted her once a month.
Now coming into summer i will be showing minimum once a month - max 3 times a month. Also jumping.
She will be very fit in summer as the evenings are lighter i will gradually get her fitter and fitter, she is clipped out all year round as she is a sweaty betty.
At the moment she is fed...
Breakfast
1/4 round scoop Good Doer
1/8 Pony nuts (just a token gesture really)
Lo cal
Dinner
1 scoop Good Doer
1/3 pony nuts
She also gets a small bucket of readi grass (well, now D&H just grass) nearly every day in winter while the grass is poor - this doesnt seem to effect her loopiness.
She gets 2 big wedges of hay at night in small holed net.
i have fed her less than this in the past and she has not had enough energy to do her work.
i have measured her feed but i cant remember what it weighs
the scoop is this kind

I can't give her too big a breakfast as she doesnt eat it all as shes too excited to go out.
I am going to take her off the Lo Cal in the next 4 weeks and put her back on pink powder - she was on this last year and looked far better on this than lo cal.
Her temperament can be very fizzy to ride. She can be very sharp. She needs stamina to keep going all day at the shows - especially as some of the shows we hack there, spend all day there and hack home, but i also need her to chill out a bit as sometimes she can be really hot headed and hard to handle.
Any new refreshing approaches that might help with the fizzyness?? i think i'm a bit stuck in a rutt, because she's a good doer & a bit RAR i'm scared to try out anything new incase it makes her fat or mental!! I've just stuck with what i know and i'm not sure its best for my pony.
This is the most recent photo of her i have boxing day & 4/1
