my 23 yo arab has just had 3 teeth pulled out as they were poking into her tongue&mouth. She seems fine but I need advice on what to feed her-I have been feeding her Veteran Vitality (pellets that soak to form a mash) and hi-fi senior (chaff) for the winter. The dentist said not to feed her chaff for about 6 weeks now while the wounds heal. I've just been out to feed her veteran vitality with no chaff, but I'm going to need something else to thicken her feed up. She loses weight really really easily so I need something to really put on weight. Any advice? The dentist recommended grass pellets but I don't know what these are?
Thank you for any help! :)

Can't you just feed more VV? Feed a bit more and maybe add some linseed to it

I agree just up the veteran vitality, grass pellets are just grass made into a pellet you soak into a mash very good for oldies without many teeth, most feed shops do them, if not fast fibre by allen and page is good you just soak that into a mash, also baileys no 1 is good for weight gain, soaking her hay will also soften it to help her eat it if she is a bit sore.

Thanks. I have been looking into the soft n soak range and think I might go with ready mash extra as it seems better for weight gain :)

Just a query (and obviously its totally your choice :D) but I don't understand the need to feed the two feeds, If you are going for the mash then do away with the VV, or if you have the VV, why bother with the mash, I would simply continue with VV and increase the amounts, I would also not be bothering to bulk it up in the future. If you need more fibre in the future, I agree, A&P FF is the way to go, If you want oomph to the weight gain side, add oil or linseed. Absolutely no need to feed two feeds.

The Shetland was on that until he put his weight back on and he's now on the ordinary ready mash and my veteran who's a good doer is on the ready fibre mash.

Yeah thats a good point, I was going to decide on one or the other. But I may get grass pellets anyway for my other pony so perhaps I will mix a few into Chrissy's feed for some variety as she gets bored easily and is very picky with her food. Thanks for your help :)
