Going to post in breeding too.

Bought a 3 year old afew months ago. She hadnt been that well fed should we say before the previous owners got her. So when she came to me shes still quite poor. Shes been scanned in foal too so we really need to get some more weight on her.
At the mo shes living out, and coming in the odd night. Being fed calm and condition, and alfa a oil. Shes also on very good haylage.

What else can i do to get the weight on? Just worried shes going to loose the little weight she has when foalie develops more.

Thanks.

I used SCATS's stud mix, with chaff throughout my TB's pregnancy. She lived out and was absolutely fine. I would just recommend keep feeding as much haylage as she will eat, split her feed into two or if possibly three feeds a day and make sure you up it according to the manufacture's guidelines. I remember being amazed at how much they actually need when I actually weighed it properly! I was going through a sack a week, hence why I used Scat's own rather than the big brands as they are twice the price. Hope that helps.

Your combo of Calm and Condition and Alpha Oil the route I would take to get extra weight on a horse, so perhaps you just need to increase the quantity. But first I would speak to A&P or one or two of the other good feed suppliers and discuss what they would recommend for a pregnant 3 yr old, could be that she needs something specific for her condition.
