hi everyone, sorry ill try not to waffle on!!

ive got my new horse coming tomorrow morning (eeeek very excited). when i went to see her, her owner said she's on 2 feeds a day consisting of just conditioning cubes and hay but there is lack of grass where she is. where my other horses are there is tons of grass, we have over 50 acres of land divided up into 7 different fields and there are about 10 horses in each field so as you can imagine we do have a lot, none of the horses down where we are on feed because of the grass but im just wondering if my new mare will be ok? shes a 10 year old 15.2 chunky bay mare cob so shes very hardy. her owner does hunting with her ya see so i think she feeds her to keep her condition up for winter! when winter comes obviously ill feed her as i do my other horses!
thanks guys x

I would just see how she goes, she looks like a good doer type. Probably best to give her a token feed just because she is use to it then gradually give less and less.

I would feed her what she's used to for the time being.
I don't like changing too many things at once, so would let her settle on her new grazing before addressing food.
Obviously, if you feel her grazing is going to be better, then drop down her quantity of hard feed accordingly.

As above - I'd fish her out for the 1st week twice a day for a small something in a bucket (ask current owner for a few scoops of same feed) - just so you can check her over & get to know her better, then let it down to once a day & then tail off.
Then observe how she maintains weight & feed accordingly.

Hope the new horse arrival goes well :)

thank you so much! shes only on loan to start off with view to buy so i kind of felt that i needed to stick to her routine and keep feeding her twice a day but because of the grass, i dont want to make her to fat or her come down with colic ect. i might have a chat with her owner tomorrow when she brings her. im getting really excited...like a kid at christmas :) x
