Hi there,
I was just wondering what I should be feeding and the quantities of each feed.

A 14.3/15hh Irish chunky cob, about 9 years old, gelding and ridden probably 5-6 times a week.
Any more info I will gladly give.
Please answer

If horse is the correct weight, then just grazing and hay will do him - either weighed if he's a piggy and rationed to maintain weight, or given ad lib if he's not a greedy s*d like my boy! He's a native and probably a good doer.

Do you have concerns over his feed at the moment?

Well I don't own the horse, but thinking of buying but didn't know what to feed... It won't let me attach a photo

Will he not need any hard feed? And he'd probably be out on grazing livery so I didn't know whether he needed hard feed as well as just grass?

As a general rule most native horses do not require any hard feed at all. Is this your first horse? If so, I would advise doing a little bit of research on how the horse's digestive system works and what is required to keep it healthy. I mean that in a friendly way. :D

Most native horses in light to moderate work (which is all we're really talking about here) don't require hard feed at all. They tend to be good doers - which means they can maintain weight - and even pile it on! - just with forage (which is grass, hay, haylage etc). You're also coming into Spring - the grass is going to grow very quickly and very rich in sugar, so you will need to consider that too and be on the look out for any form of laminitis etc . You may find you need to strip graze to maintain weight. Only time will tell once you have him.

What is he fed on now? You could always just follow the current owners feeding regime and adjust as you see fit when you have him.

You can get your grazing tested to see if it contains correct amounts of minerals etc - then you know whether you need to supplement with anything. But always get your grazing tested before assuming your horse needs supplementing.
