What To Feed.????

I Have a 9yr old 15.3hh irish cob doing about 45min work a day. and i am pulling my hair out about what to feed him people say one thing to feed him and another person says something else he had his feed changed good noes how many times..!! atm he is on hi-fi original stamm30 and garlic what do you think isit ok or should i change it.? he does have alot of energy which i dont want lol..!!! and stamm30 has 30% protien in which is very high..!!! but cant find another balancer which is a bit lower in protien.??
Help needed pleaseee

I agree with Nailed. Especially if the horse is looking well.

I agree with everyone else, your horse is in light work so you only need to feed something like mollichaff or hi-fi-lite with ordinary pony cubes or a nice low cool mix. If he hasn't then got enough energy after all the high protein you've been giving him, you can add a little more slowly......but 30% protein is bonkers if you don't mind me saying. You need to change that and quickly.

Agree, with most others just hay and grass. A vit/min supplement should only be needed if there is a specific problem, the horse is not doing well or is on restricted grazing. You could supplement with a vit andnd mineral powder like benevit, a feed balancer like blue chip or top spec with some chaff or low cal nuts as a carrier, or just a good old pink salt lick in his field.

My neds only have a token handfull of simple systems chaff to mix with their feed balancer. In the winter they have a tiny bit of unmollased sugar beet and some lucerne pellets just to give a bit of variety from hay. If you feed too much you will end up at worst with an overweight/over exitable horse, at worst you are just wasting money by having it end up on the muck heap!
 
I'm with Nailed. Apart from grass/hay, my two have a handful of beet pulp and handful of plain oats and a squirt of cider vinegar. This is just because I bring them in a night and they expect something in a bucket. They have a red salt lick and that's it. When they are working they get more hay and a bit more oats.
 
He should just have grass and hay like suggested above, or if you have to give him something FIBRE and a supp block in field/stable. Good luck
