I'm a bit unsure of what to feed my new mare.

She's 8 years old, a hackney x welsh d. She's overweight but i'm working it down, has a bit of muscle not a lot. I'm currently building it up. She's in about half an hour of schooling/an hour of hacking 6 days a week (on average).

She's currently on happy hoof.

Any ideas what to feed her?

She isn't fizzy, and her coat is in alright condition. Been grooming her like crazy so maybe a feed or supplement that will help this. Thanks!

My girl is a very good doer so I have to watch her weight like a hawk. At the moment I am feeding 1.5% of her body weight and she seems to be look good on that. I feed her weighed & soaked hay and on a night she gets half a scoop of Happy hoof with 2 cups of fast fibre.

I was having dilemmas in choosing the right feed combination for my new mare but I've finally got it now. Mine is a section d x tb and although she's more chunky than fine she was losing some weight. (Probably through stress of move) I was also told she's had lami in the past. I feed her plain plain chaff (mixed with small cup of veg oil) speedi-beet and spillers lite balancer....along with her hay (approx net and a half) and she's out in the day.

We recently had the spillers lady at our yard weighing the horses and giving advice etc and when I told her what I was feeding mine she basically said 'do you want a job as you've got it 100% right'

:)
