My girl - still has cystitis after 4 weeks. Now on her 3rd different antibiotic after finding the bacteria was resistant.

Anyone got any ideas what I can give her to make it less painful to pee?

we've got a horse with bad kidneys and she gets lots of salt in her feeds, makes her drink more therefore pass more urine to flush out any nasties lurking around, might not help with your mare though as weeing more might make her more uncomfortable rather than help her!

cranberry juice sounds like a good plan though!

Well humans are supposed to drink barley water, so how about barley rings? Don't suppose she'd complain about that!!!

(This is a very non-qualified answer, in case you hadn't guessed.)

I could go on for ages here. They did an endoscope and biosy which showed no lumps but loads of inflammation and bloody patches and infection. He has been on Trimediazine and penicllin which did not work as the bacteria was resistant and she is now on a liquid antibiotic in her feed. She has been on it for 10 days and still not really better so we are at 4 weeks now. She is so uncomfortable and I dont know what to do with her. She squirts all the time and on the very rare occasion she has a proper wee (about every 3 days) there is blood in it.

I have done a lot of reading (lethal I know but we all do it) and it seems primary cystitis is very rare but there are no signs of anything else.

I'm just wonderiung if I'm ever going to get my sparky girl back.

Which ones would you suggest?

I have no idea - it was just a thought. Triggered actually by another post saying that their horse was eating dandillions.

I wonder if it would be worth giving someone like Hilton Herbs a buzz and explaining the situation. You'd have to do it in consultation with your vet. But clearly your poor little horse can't go on like this.

I'm sure we all know how painful it can be.....
