Someone has asked me what to do with a horse that she can't cope with. She bought him as a foal with the intention of eventually breaking him and learning to ride. He's now eight, someone has broken him for her but he's far too much for her to cope with either ridden or on the ground.

He's 8, 15.1, coloured, trad cob. He's got virtually no manners on the ground, pushes and barges and has no respect. He has been hacked out but isn't very good in traffic. He is NOT a calm placid boy but is sweet natured. He is very overweight. His paces are nothing to write home about either. He is NOT a good loader.

Basically he's a fairly ordinary chap, with oodles of hair who has been allowed to get away with murder.

If she advertises him what sort of price might she expect and also if I put in an offer to take him off her hands without the hassle of advertising him what should I offer?

He sounds like he's going to be a big project! I would offer £300 - £500 for him as the most. Good luck with him if you do decide to buy him.

Sounds like you could have alot of arguements with that one! I'd offer £500 max - in the hope that she see it is the best option for the horse to have a decent future.

If I was you I'd be giving £1 or something similar to make it legal. It would be a kindness for you to take him. Its not his fault like you say he hasn't been bought up right but there are too many nice horses out there for spending a lot of money on one like this. I would worry about the kind of home he would go to if you didn't take him to be honest but maybe something like project horses might be the place to put him but I wouldn't expect much money for him although your friend would have to be careful where he went.

He could make a nice chap after a bit ( or rather a lot) of work. So I agree £500 about right lets hope she is realistic about him.

Good luck
