One of my mares had a rather large knee at the moment, she's not lame and happy for you to move it around and prod it, have done flexion test and she is ok. The only thing I can put it down to is she has a habit of tapping the door with her knee.... so any ideas what I can use to reduce the swelling and the bruising, have given her Arnica, but is there anything else I can give her internal or external. Thankies.....

We've got some clay stuff on the yard - can't remember what it's called, but it similar to ice tight.

Essentially the clay has some astrigent and cooling agent in it, and is put on the swelling to help support, cool and reduce it.

Dont us any type of drawing agent on a joint, cold hosing is the best but may need to do it for a few day

I know this sounds silly but cold cabage is brilliant and it seemed to work on my boys capped hock prior to me showing him, And its cheap (although my be eaten before it has a chance to work)

if she's banging her knee on the door try staning a full tub trug of water in the way of the door so that if she knocks the door it will splash her.

It stopped my mare door banging with her hoof

Cold hose and I would give bute, or massage in movelat (Human stuff available from chemists). Also try putting some carpet on her door or stuffed sacks if she's banging constantly, and ignore her and don't respond to her if she does bang!
