i've got an interview for the position of a non riding groom at a local yard in a weeks time. I'm planning on wearing smart jods and clean muckers (my long boots are broken) but don't know what to wear on top? All I have are t shirts or hoodies, are they too casual? Also what kind of questions do you think they'll ask me? thanks x

If non riding id imagine either jods or jeans with muckers or walking style boots and a polo shirt would be fine. Depends what sort of yard it is though. Tbh id probably just wear a clean version of what i do yard duties in.

I'd wear black jods and yard boots and have riding boots in the car.

Re top: do you have a plain polo shirt, a jumper and waistcoat you can wear?

You have to be smart but remember you are going to be on a yard so they won't be overly bothered about what you are wearing if you can do the job well.

Good luck!

Good luck with the interview FP05, hope it goes well. I'd suggest clean but practical clothes in case they want you to do some chores etc. don't forget your hat and gloves in case they want to see how you handle or lead an awkward one !

I would go with smart dark jeans, dubarry boots or country boots or similar, shirt or blouse and a country style jacket. Think a day at a point to point or something?

When I interviewed for a riding job I wore skinny jeans, long boots, a polo shirt with a gillet over the top. I wore the same for a non rising job but swopped long boots for country boots.

One of my best ever grooms came for interview wearing white jeans, and she nearly didn't get the job because of them :D

I would say clean yard clothes and clean yard boots. Don't be too well dressed as I for one want someone who looks like they will work and I will certainly want to see some practical tasks at interview. The other thing that is a personal bugbear is hair - I don't care what colour it is or how much or little of it you have, make sure it is neat and tidy and out of your face :p

As above but dont over do it. Interviewed someone last week who looked like out of dubarry catalogue think fur and tweed. Hmmm...

As you may be expected to ride one i would go in jods, boots and clean shirt with a jacket for the wind/rain, and dont forget the riding hat, if i interviewing you my first thought would be, this lass is prepared so has thought about it, so you would no doubt think aout things when doing the job. Good luck.

Actually even though it's a non riding job, putasocinit has a point that you need to take hat (and gloves!) because you may need them anyway for handling horses (depending on what sort of yard it is). I would expect you to have them here even if you weren't riding :)
