I am currently applying for a couple of working pupil/groom positions at yards local to me. I have volunteered on a yard and done work experience at a yard but I didn't have to attend an interview for either of those. If I am asked to attend an interview for any of the positions what should I wear? I was thinking smart, clean jods, clean long muck boots and a polo shirt with a jacket if it is cold.
Would black jods be ok or should I wear beige ones? Can I wear any colour polo shirt or should I stick to black or white? Would a long sleeve rugby shirt be ok instead of a short sleeve polo shirt?
Also is it ok for me to have a bright coloured silk on my hat or should I change it to my black one?
Thanks in advance for any advice :)

It depends on if you are expected to ride or not to be honest. When I was interviewing for positions I was expected to ride so I wore beige, smart breeches and tall boots. I'm not sure if your muck boots will be smart enough - it depends on the kind of yard you are interviewing for and how smart the boots are!! A polo shirt is fine. I wore a coloured polo shirt (if I remember it was red) and a smartis navy coat. You don't want to go too bland. You want to seem like you are able to think outside the box and have a bit of imagination so don't play it too safe. Try and be yourself. It depends on how bright your hat silk is and how professional the yard is - I wouldn't wear like cerise pink to a smart dressage yard!! But if you are working with kids or it's a more relaxed atmosphere a bit of colour is fine. If not, swap it for black or navy. Good luck!! I had the time of my life as a working student a you'll love it!! :)

Smart and clean are the key things.Remember to minimise any jewellery and make up, less or none is best. Don't forget gloves and a smile. Good luck!

Thank you both for the advice. :D

*sprinkles* - I can't get long riding boots or wellies to fit my wide calf's so I was thinking that I would wear my muck boots for yard duties such as mucking out and then change into my jod boots if I am asked to ride.

ozpoz - I don't wear jewellery or makeup anyway so no problems there. I hadn't thought about gloves though so thanks for that :D

I would actually recommend dark jods if ull be mucking out etc before u ride as light colours get dirty so quickly and risk making u look scruffy if they do.
