Afternoon all

So I have a Welsh section a whom I've had for 4 years. He's an amazing little chap with a temperament to die for, he loves everything and everyone, even little kids. Sadly he has cushings which has been a struggle to keep under control and we nearly lost him last October to severe laminitis. Anyway, he bounced back and is currently fit and well. I am taking him to a local show in April as I want to make the most of him while he's ok, and I want to show him off! I'm only doing veterans and best grass kept/local, that kind of thing, but what do I wear? I have a black show jacket and white jods, but the pony is grey so am I right in thinking I need to wear dark trousers? If any of you showing folk could give me a couple of pointers, I would be most grateful! Thank you

I am thinking your doing in hand? as his grey I would wear a dark pair of trousers they will look better than jodhpurs and some short boots that you can run in! A tweed jacket will look more correct or you could opt for a light coloured shirt and tie with a waistcoat I think this looks very smart when showing in hand.

Yes sorry, I'll be showing him in hand! Thank you for your reply! He was given to me as the lady who had him didn't like him and said oh he's simply not showy enough, whatever that means, and handed him over to me just like that. I'm determined to prove her wrong!

well most of the Welsh sec a's I have known have a natural tendency to want to show off in the ring and can look like mini Arabs, that's what's I call them anyway:) I am sure he will look lovely and as long as you both enjoy yourselves what does it matter.

Please let us know how you get on pictures are a must you know!

Thank you! Yes he does think he's 17hh sometimes when he's running round the field with the big boys! Right, first off, got to learn my dressage test for Saturday, then I can start transforming the bog pony to show pony!!

Try to wear trousers that contrast to pony's legs. I have an Exmoor, so I wear pale / stone coloured trousers over brown boots. That said, quite a lot of people show in a colour like red to give a clear contrast between pony legs & handler legs.
For a native, tweed is correct jacket, but a shirt & waistcoat always looks fab!
