I'm entering my first unaffiliated dressage test soon, so I have some stupid questions...

Can you wear navy jods? (I have a nice pair already so would save me having to buy some cream/beige ones)
If you wear navy jods, would you then wear a black or navy jacket?

Thanks!

If the schedule says it’s being run under BD or British riding club rules then yes navy jodhpurs are now allowed. I’m not sure what navy jods and a black jacket would look like, I’ve seen people wear navy with navy.

Personally, I think it is best to present yourself as much aligned with BD rules as you can. This includes a white saddle pad for your horse and all the right tack. However, if it is a local show without much expectation then anything goes, except for your bridle I would think.

BD rules do not require a white saddle pad, white/cream or a conservative colour are permitted.

I would say that although BD and BRC rules have relaxed a lot in terms of jods / saddlecloths / no jacket required, all the local stuff I go to people stick to the traditional look, except for dress down dressage.

Agree with this although if it's your first one and you want to get an idea of what everyone else is wearing and what you like and if you even want to go again then I would wear what suits you and not fork out for white jodhs etc.

Round here unaffiliated tend to follow BD rules, it may say on the schedule.

Navy jods would be fine however I wouldn't wear them with a black jacket in the same way I wouldn't wear that colour combo in a non riding situation and I think all in one navy plus navy looks too much like a uniform for me. I would prefer to combine them with a grey or hacking jacket but that's a style choice not a rules thing.

Then shirt with tie or stock depending on the collar, conservative colour gloves and either long boots or short boots with gaiters not half chaps (unless that's changed recently) and as said conservative colour saddlepad or numnah.

Plus numbers on both sides either attached to your bridle or saddlecloth.

Half chaps are allowed. Just no fringes.

'Come as you are' events are popular, in fact quite a fashion show from what I've seen!

On the flip side, you can get some real bargain breeches on Ebay, especially in the lighter colours, how about cream or beige?

Enjoy it, whatever you wear, all those who judge dressage should be capable of not being swayed by dress!

Your navy jods can't have any obvious or distracting logos, you simply need plain, solid colour jodhpurs. Navy, black, beige, grey etc, doesn't matter.

I wear a white shirt with a high collar and no stock. I wear grey gloves which match my grey jobs. I wear a plain black showjumping jacket and a body protector on top (baby horse and warm ups terrify me).

Have to admit, I prefer how I look in beige jods in the pics but choosing to wear grey or beige has never had an impact on my scores.

Have fun, best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I go for charcoal breeches, with gloves to match, a tweed jacket (have navy and green though sadly I think my boobs have outgrown the navy one) nice shirt and plain tie. It looks smart (in my eyes at least) and goes well with a heavyweight cob.
