Hi all!!

I've just realised I haven't got any proper winter warmers or waterproofs!

I'm looking on DH and there are so many jackets/gilets/jumpers to choose from I just don't know what to pick - can you give me your recommendations please???

I need the following:
a warm / waterproof riding jacket(s)
some waterproof riding chaps
insulated/waterproof footwear either for riding or just yard work

I'm not afraid to spend some money on these items as long as they are going to last so go ahead and spend my money for me!!!!

ariat grasmeres for your tootsies, they're a thing of wonder and the only reason i'm not dreading winter!
i've never found a pair of truly waterproof chaps, have now got a pair of Irideon breeches which i've been told are brilliant, windproof and pretty waterproof... so far so good...
not sure about riding jackets, never found a truly waterproof one either, i tend to get ski jackets from TK Maxx!

Rambo chaps, mine have lasted for years and are actually waterproof. So are leather ones.

I am a fan of Muck boots for warmth (Tynes can be ridden in too) although some people say they can be slippery, mine aren't and they have seen a lot more snow and ice than they would in a normal UK winter.

Jackets, I have never found a totally waterproof horse one, Columbia are an excellent brand, I have a three in one that I haven't been cold in yet in our chilly winters. If you want waterproof, spend money and buy Helly Hansen sailing jackets, I had a bright yellow one that I wore for years and never got wet, even in the best Wales could chuck at me.

i second rambo chaps i have had mine for 4 years and they have just died on me totaly gutted as for a jacket i have a shires hi viz jacket and its nice and warm and very waterprrof as for boots mountain horse have released a new pair of fleecey lined long riding boots at £90 or there abouts if not muck boots but the riding ones are fab

I've got the Pikeur Lugana 81 breeches, and they kept my bum and legs warm and dry last winter---although I gather kerilli has had a less positive experience with them!

For riding jacket, I end up wearing my cheapo fleece-lined hi-viz one from Robinsons: jacket on website . Since I have to hack to get to the school anyway, it kills 2 birds with one stone.

Im a new convert to muck boots and so far my feet have been cooking and they are very comfortable and i do live in them!
I have a pair of DH thermal waterproof troousers but am yet to try those out properly either.
And as above ive had no luck with decent horsie coats.
I also thoroughly recommend some of the under tops you can get, i think all mine are toggi just by chance but they are the tight material and believe me that layer close to your skin is the best way to be warm.

Jacket wise, I've got a Joules Dakota which has been worn in torrential rain and I've always been bone dry underneath. That's my coat for really wet weather

Riding chaps, I've got a pair of Rambo fleece lined full chaps which are a Godsend in winter and I couldn't be without them.

Footwear I wear Mountain Horse Protective Rider boots (laced ones), they keep my feet really toasty warm in winter. They aren't insulated but with 2 pairs of socks my toes are really warm, and I feel the cold badly.

The only stuff which keeps me warm is ski-wear. My best boots are Caterpillar work boots and my gloves are ski-gloves. Yup, I go out looking ready for the alps rather than a hack, but it's the only way, sometimes! I did find that a less-bulky alternative last year was to simply wear waterproof trousers over the top of jods. Takes the wind and worst of the rain off and so heat doesn't escape.
