What to wear??

Hi,
I am just getting back into competition having done nothing since a teenager. My intention is to do Showjumping, combined training and occasional pure dressage. When I was younger I just used to wear a normal shirt and tie. In my late teens I tried to buy a ready tied stock but it was a disaster as it wasn't 'ready-tied'!
I now need to 'refresh' my look and although having just bought the horse I don't have much money.
I currently have:
A navy jacket (which is a little big but will do for now)
Cream jodhpurs (which will do for now but look a bit pony club so I want white when I have money!)

I don't know what to do for a shirt. The old one is kicking around but I still don't know what to do with 'ready-tied' thing. I have seen a lot of SJ's don't seem to wear anything. What is the difference between a show shirt design for stock and designed for without?!

Help - I've tried googling show shirts but have no idea what I'm looking at & I don't want to look an idiot at my first shows!!!
 
I also wondered if any brands are good for taller riders? Lots of makes now do longer length jodhpurs but I have long arms too so ideally need longer sleeves!!!!

Is there a difference between 'stock shirts' & 'show shirts'? I'm confused :confused: esp when you watch the v fashionable SJers on TV like Ellen W!
How did you get on with the ready tied thing? I couldn't work it out.. it's in 2 pieces and not tied!!!
I will get the jods soon... but pay day is a long way off & my horse is like a money hoover at the moment... trainer made me change his breastplate & tendon boots, he has had a feed allergy and needs supplements (which is working) I'm feeling v poor!!! :D
 
The jacket that you have will be fine. Many wear a showshirt (without collar) & no stock. As for white jods/breeches, they are fine until you ride in the rain & then all the saddle colour comes off on therm & they are the devil to clean. Stick with cream jods/breeches, they are far more practical, but if you really want white ones only ride in the dry. ;)
 
White jods/breeches are all very well and good until you get bucked off into the water..... and are wearing VERY bright red knickers :D

That was VERY embarrassing

Noted - I look at my white dressage Saddle Cloth which has been used twice and I think you are right. White ones will be for special occasions when I can afford a pair and my current pair (which has held up well to muddy bottom and grass stains) can stay for those muckier occasions!
 
im sure what you have will be fine and sounds similar to what i would wear but i just wear a pony club tie not a stock

Ok dumb question number 32 - is there a correct colour for dressage stocks? What about showing? I'd really like to just get one!! I've a combined training event next saturday and I'm looking at ones on ebay. There are some lovely colours but thinking Ivory or White might be the more sensible choice!

I forgot how difficult looking the part was when you're feeling a bit poor!!

Unfortunately, I haven't got a clue, I don't do poncing about ;) but I would imagine white/ivory/cream is a safe option.

LMAO! Neither did I as a teenage hence I didn't care what I looked like. However, the 'SJer' I bought turns out to be ace at the pouncing about and keeps scoring 65-73% even with my rubbish riding!! Hence I am trying the combined training next week so I get a bit of both!!
