OK so imagine this... local showing show (although usually good standard and well supported) 1st class of the day int he inhand ring is Youngstock (1,2,3yr olds all breeds all genders)
I was entered with my 2 sec A fillies although only took one in as other handler didnt turn up (another story all together). All was going well, i did my trot round the ring, followed by a large (wbx looking) yearling colt, then followed by a 2yr traditional colt. The 2 colts then started to get a bit excited and the traditional one got away from its handler... he made a b-line for the other colt. Now got 2 colts trying to mount each other grrr. It started tog et rather dangerous so i asked the steward if i could leave the ring, he agreed i could for my safety. Next thing the 2 colts have jumped out the ring and are now galloping round the showground, it took the best part of 10 min to catch them, the entire time this was going on my filly stood quietly by the entrance to the ring.
Traditional colt never came back to the ring but wbx one did now blowing rather heavily and sweaty. We were both invited back into the ring to continue the class.

Personally I would think leaving the ring without permission would result in elimination?

Can you guess the result of the class??

ETA - Nobody (human or equine) got hurt by the horses when they were losse, thank goodness

They shouldnt have been allowed back in (or they could but non competitively) Also i think it would be helpful if people with young colts could handle them, Once at a show i was 13 or 14 and asked to hold a 6 year old 15 hands stallion and walk it around. Id handled it at home before fine even though it wasn't very well mannered at all. I refused as I didnt want to be responsible if the badly mannered/trained horse went loopy and injured somebody. Also the rules in the scedual said that you needed to be over 16 to handle stallions on the showground. I wasnt scared of the horse, i didnt dislike it or anything or the owners but it was just a case of being sensible really. Even if i had been 16, if i think that the horse could hurt somebody i wouldnt get involved. They should have done more work with it at home TBH.

And if one of the ones running around won it.. well thats hardy fair.

let me guess, the wbX, that seems to happen a lot at my shows, the naugty one always wins. I asked one judge why did the one that was kicking and messing around had won, he replied it showed spark and charater. Now i don't do much showing but i thought its suposed to be about manners and confirmation? i like seeing horses with a bit of go, but not when they are being a danger to others. I do agree, horses that are a danger or leave the ring without permission ( which IS a rule) should be eliminated

WBx did indeed win, i went to the sec. caravan after the class and was told the judges decision is final!
I like to support my local club as local people keep the club going but judging like that surely makes a bad name and will make people think twice about attending?

only reason I ask is that it was on this weekend and last year there was a very bolshy colt that was in the ring and it double barrelled the photographer, I'm amazed that the photographer is still around to tell the tale!! Needless to say that when the ambulance had been and gone they carried on with the class and made the horse 1st. Typical showing judges - they either like your horse or they don't!
