what trailer should i accept as part ex for my lorry... Help!

Please excuse any strange spellings- i'm writing with predictive text on my phone.

Anyhow, as some of you know. I am selling my beloved lorry. I put an advert on preloved today (free!) and mentioned it on facebook a couple of days ago. In my ad i said i'd consider a trailer as part ex as i'm downgrading.

I've been completely overwhelmed with the response. And i'm now a bit confused about what trailers i should be thinking about. I presumed i'd get one or two people with a little old trailer worth a few hundred... But so far i've been offered a few ifor williams ones from about 1k to 2.5k, and a double rice with living (but only rear unload) for just over 3k.
I don't know anything about trailers. The rice one is just too expensive so out of the equation.
Is the ifor 505 significantly smaller than 510? Are they harder to resell- i could always sell whatever i get if it doesn't suit my needs as raff is still out of work?
Are they light or heavy? Do i want a light trailer or a heavy one? Are heavy ones safer? The 4x4 i want has towing capacity of 3tonnes.
So many questions which probably don't make sense (i can only see about 5 words at a time on phone screen!)
But thoughts much appreciated. X
 
How confusing??? LOL How big is your horse/s? A IW 505 is a pony trailer, a 510 is a horse one. Does your horse travel well in a trailer? Have you looked at any of the other trailers, Bateson, Richardson etc?

What car are you thinking of using to tow?
 
505s are noticeably smaller than the 510s. how big is raf? 505 is up to 16.2 technically.

there probably isnt a whole lot of difference on the weights I suspect.

ifor are very helpful, there is a log number on the tow hitch if you want to check how old they are etc, they will also happily tell you any weight difference :)

WRONG.....a 505 will carry up to 16h2" & the 510 will carry up to around 17h2".

There are many trailer manufacturers, Ifor Williams, Bateson, Rice, Richardson, Cheval Liberte, Equitrek etc etc. You will need to do plenty of research to ascertain the pros & cons of each build & the value of each model depending on age & condition. Personally I believe Bateson are one of the best, they are light, airy, well engineered, tow brilliantly & retain their value well.

Horse is 15.1. Man with ifor 505 told me it carried up to 16.2...
Raff travels okay in trailer although he does prefer a lorry which is why i thought heavy trailer might be smoother and more solid ride- but i'm probably wrong...?
Havent looked at other makes cos only been offered ifor and rice so far...

Eeek too confusing... :)
 
he'd be fine in a 505 then, I wouldnt expect them to be different ride wise. though if it helps our mare travels better in our ifor than she ever did in the richardson.

I would say 505s have as much, if not more resale than a 510.

I'll ask for number from tow hitch as everyone guesses the age of their trailer.... X

and yes.. can be some interesting years otherwise and just means you can make sure :)
 
You should be fine with a 505 then. Sorry should have qualified my statement then. Yes 505 will fit up to 16.2 HEIGHT WISE. But no good if you have a 16hh Clydesdale for eg! It was a snug fit!

The very noticable difference is in the length of the horse travelling space. - Well I have noticed it...

Id check its got the alloy floor too, if it has and its the original then its no older that 10 yr old. Im only saying this as I bought a 4 yr old 505 secondhand years ago with the old wooden floor, it was my first trailer at the time and I just expected it to be ok being only 4 yrs old. More fool me it was totally rotton down the sides of the floor and the bottom of the side panels were too. Aparantly that year (96) I think was recalled and mine hadnt gone back. I ended up trading it in for a new one!
 
2nd crazyfresian, my then 16.1 mw wouldnt fit, his ears touched the roof and he wouldnt fit length or width wise with the partition in.
