what two bits would you put together in a double bridle?

A double bridle is what is is usually?
A Weymouth (with a curb) and a Bradoon snaffle.
That is what my interpretation of a double bridle is, would be interested to know if there was vaariations of this?

There are variations yes, for example you could have a loose ring bradoon or a hanging cheek bradoon, single, or double jointed. Your weymouth could be ported or straight or jointed, with a short or long shank.

OP I've never been involved with introducing a horse to a double bridle for the first time but I would have thought youd be best mirroring the type of bit your horse normally has, so if it has a french link loose ring snaffle maybe try to get a french link loose ring bradoon..........
 
I use a loose ring bradoon and a ported sliding weymouth. I sure you can get eggbut bradoons and various others but really the snaffle and the weymouth are the bits of choice...

Oh yes of course; just the basic 2 bits that make up the double bridle was what I was thinking, :)
 
I put Stinky in a loose ring french link as this is what he prefers day to day, with a sliding cheek Cambridge weymouth which again after trying a few combinations, he went best in. I hardly have to touch the bottom rein, so having a bridoon he accepted for me was the most important bit.
