My youngster Teddy 2 Shoes is a clyde x trad cob but he's growing like a mushroom and rapidly changing into a hunter type...I think! LOL He doesn't have a long flowing traditional mane and feather and I have a feeling he'd be better with either a pulled mane or hogged. If he was yours, what would you chop off and which classes would you enter him in?

Here are some pics........not totally recent but from this year. He's very leggy at the minute and built like a power house. Standing 15.1hh at his withers and 15.2hh on his bum!

Ooooo I like your style! LOL I'll have to do something like that with him. Could I solo comb his mane now and work on getting him used to the clippers to chop his feathers off? Might look a bit odd not going the whole 'hog'....so to speak! LOL

Clip to within an inch of his life !, school him and have lots of fun in cob classes, maxi if he goes over height. Plenty of coloured classes but I have no knowledge of those.

He isn't a hunter in the true meaning of the word, but there is nothing to stop you doing a local level hunter class with a hogged cob as there will be allsorts in the class anyway.

Don't waste money registering him as a hunter at County level, you might need the money for registering him as a cob in a few years time. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! His last show is this Sunday...would it be wrong to tidy his mane up but leave his feathers on? I need to introduce the clippers to him over the winter and don't want to hacking away with scissors before Sunday.

I'd bath him too! LOL .....maybe more than once when I get a good look at him!

I intend to have lots of fun with him....I've not got a competitive bone in me but I enjoy turning him out smart and correct for low level showing and riding club events.

I hope he turns out to be a poppet under saddle too....time will tell!

I'd hog him and Cob him!

Have to agree with everybody else, hog him, clip him to within an inch of his life and cob him. He'll look super.

Result - A Lyn Russell before and after scenario.

And give him an appropriate 'cob-sounding' show name if he hasnt already got one.

Oh my, he's growing into SUCH a lovely young man..... how are his tootsies now? All sorted?

You know me, I love 'em hairy but he'd look wonderful either way....

He is growing lovelier by the minute!! and I agree with going down the maxi cob route...

I'm sure he'll be fine with the clippers but there's no rush ;) I love having a good trim and tidy up though and can't wait to give Starsky his first Autumn clip... sadly he has other ideas and has decided to go lame on me!! so may be no need to clip - grrrrr!!!

maybe shorten his mane so that you can plait and get an impression of what he would look like hogged?

Thanks folks.

Wouldn't say he has a really cob type name.....his full title is Teddy 2 Shoes. May have to re think that...maybe Tonka!

Domane - the magic mineral recipe from Forage Plus has been amazing as has Sarah. Teddy is a changed neddy...so shiny and healthy as well as rock crunching feet. Altogether its been a roller coaster of a ride but so worth it. He has a future now and I couldn't be more happy with him.

CBFan - Poor Starsky, there's always something...why do we do it! LOL Hope he's on the mend soon. I'll have a session with the solo comb on him and see how far we get. Sunday isn't too important, its just good to get him out and about. x

I'm so pleased :) And... it probably gave you a new education into hooves and dealing with disorders, etc.....so a whole new set of skills learned too!

just tidy for the show on sunday then set to work with the clippers over the winter!

Whoever asked about cobs and workers there is a working cob class now!

Yey! He's only going to go local level but I've been told he's a nice old fashioned hunting type and he is a good hunting pony :)
