What 'Type' is my horse for showing?

I'm new to this so apologies if pics don't show!

This is my 16.1 Holstein Gelding 'Dave'. I'v had him about 6 months now and after quite alot of exuberance he's starting to chill out (thank god)! I'm going to start taking him to a few dressages, sponsored rides and clinics in the next few months and also would like to have a go at some showing.
I previously used to show my mare in pba arab and hack classes, but im not entirely sure what class would best suit Dave? Riding horse? Hunter? any ideas? thankksss :)

I was going to say working hunter aswell, not sure if he has enough bone for MW hunter and not sure he is light enough for light weight, hard to tell from the photo. Nice horse though.
 
If you are thinking of doing local showing then it would also be worth considering Riding Club Horse.
 
Hi , thanks for the reply, yes i was thinking more of a hunter type too :)

Yes we do, but iv been concentrating more on flatwork recently to try and keep things consistent (He's quite a scatter brain!)
 
agree with all the above but have you got a side on pic so we can see confo and bone a bit better ? id say lightweight hunter but its hard to tell from your pics!

He`d make a lovely worker too if he jumps :D
 
I would try both classes and see how you do. He looks quite fine to me and I would imagine plaited up and with a velvet browband he would look quite pretty rather than workmanlike.

How does he move?

I was slightly confused over whether he would be a LWH or MWH as he seems between the weights, although he has bulked up quite abit since those pictures were taken. I'll take a side on picture tomorrow so you can see his conformation etc.

His name was Blaze but i changed it top Dave when we bought him as i thought it suited him better ;) I'm not sure of his show name yet! I may just enter him as Dave for a laugh, although others have suggested 'Davidoff'.....
 
Ha ha ha!!! That is brilliant!! No no keep it as Dave... you need a last name now.. Who's a famous Dave... Beer, Gorman, Cameron, Beckham, Milliband.... ummm... ooh lots of kings of Scotland named Dave.... Oooh Crocket!!!

What about Dave Not Quite a Middleweight???
 
The more I look at the picture the more I think he is too 'pretty' (for want of a better word) to be a hunter, he has quite fine legs and a very pretty face whereas fo a hunter you would want a more workmanlike face.

Does he move elegantly or is he more of a ground coverer?

I know I'm in the minority but you can do both classes to see how he does.

hahaha! excellent! Our yard manager did suggest i call him 'Dave the Rave' due to his general lack of brain cells and dizzy moments! :p
 
He does have very floaty springy movement in trot when he works nicely, but also covers the ground well in canter (massive stride!) :)

It would brighten a goold old english show day to no end!!! Do hope we meet Dave the Rave on our outings one day!!! :D

He's just 9. he was imported from Holland when he was 6 and i bought him at the end of last year. In those 3 years his previous owner, shall we say, didn't do him any favours... But his confidence is improving all the time :D
