Following on from the post below about the 'all but perfect' showing classes for horses with blemishes etc, what type would you say Zoomy is?

I would love to show her but I am a complete beginner - they have Riding horse, hack, horse to hunt on, hunter and a few others but I don't know if she fits into any of them.

She is about 14.3 but I have never measured her properly and seems to have grown since she has muscled up so could maybe be 15hh (she was very scrawny before!).

Ideas?

(PS this is her being a giraffe in the lap of honour - I plan for her to be going better before showing!!)

Riding horse would be good, or riding club type. There are lots of classes at the locals you could go for. Zooomi is gorgeous - bless. I have booked the big fella in riding horse and riding club classes at my local next Sunday - If its not cancelled !!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck !

Um - lovely horse , but I know very little about showing

In the first pic I would have said Ladies Hack ( if they still call them that ? ) but lightweight hunter / riding horse - told you I knew very little about showing !

Good luck anyway

I just want to say how sad she lost her eye, she has an absolutely beautiful face. In local you can do equitation which is more about the rider - or lw hunter generally they are bigger but not so much in local. Riding club type would be good too

Good luck with her

Thanks Taff - she is a little stunner and so kind and willing! In a way it is a good thing she lost her eye. It is very selfish but if she hadn't lost her eye she would never have ended up with me and I really couldn't be without her.

She's my baby!

Please don't take this the wrong way - we had a clyde with exactly the same empty socket for years, but anything other than small local level is probably not worth attempting. I speak from experience.

What you can have a go at with the type you have and might be ok with is:

Riding club horse
Working hunter - a good jump will help to over ride the eye
Equitation classes

These classes are not so based on looks and perfection. I would not do ridden hunter/riding horse etc as even at local, the standards are often high.

What you are going to have to do is have a perfect way of going and turnout so her manners, movement etc take the judge away from the eye and the blemish.

I know she is perfect to you, but showing is one of the most based on looks things you can do with your horse.

People ask me would I have a one eyed horse again and I answer without hesitation yes I would apart from showing.

Sorry if I sound negative, but the standards of local level over the years have risen hugely in a lot of classes and should I now attempt to do the classes I got away with and won in the early 90s with an old TB with scars on her knees and head, I would not be able to do now.

If they have a hack section... go for that if not go small riding horse she is far to fine and lovely for a hunter even lwt.... riding horse classes they are looking for more elegant than the forward ooommmphy hunter so go all refined and flicky toes if you can... best of luck may see you there

I'd say hack or riding horse. I think the all but perfect classes are a brilliant idea and best of luck to you
