I need to get my horses back checked out. He has trouble with left rein canter which I put down to his youngness at first, then he started to shoot forwards occassionally and more recently he's started to be reluctant to stand at the mouting block for me to get on. My instructor said that he may be slightly unlevel through his hips but not majorly.
I've already had the vet out but he found nothing obvious and said that it was down to schooling issues?
So what type of practitioner do we need?..... a chiropractor, physio, osteopath, mctimoney, equine vet, etc, etc?

I would get a recommendation of a good Physio in your area and go from there. Always go on recommendation as as with most things there are some dodgy practitioners out there. I am sure someone on here could recommend you someone in your area.

Every horse is different and respond to different treatments, i used to use a physio all the time but change to McTimoney chiropractor a couple of years ago and have found my horses to respond much better. It all depends on the actual problem. My new youngster was very stiff on her right rein so got my back lady out and she was very tight in her muscles on the left side hence not wanting to bend to the right, 1 1/2 hours of treatment later and she is a different horse :D

My first choice would always be a McTimoney chiropractor to correct any skeletal misalignment. IMHO if you go straight to a physio, there is always a danger they will be treating the symptoms and not the cause.

Thanks everyone. I've booked a chiropractor called Ulrika Bluemell on reccommendation from Tomasina Spilman who's a highly reccommended chiro in my area but she isn't taking new clients. Ulrika also does equine sports massage so hopefully she'll be able to help but if not then I'll get a physio out after.

You need your vet out to see your horse IMO. Any complementary therapist that is worth their salt will not see horses without vet referral.

Chiropractors would never get anywhere near any horse of mine. There is no such thing as spinal misalignment, and any "adjustments" made are nothing more than an elaborate ritual designed to part you from your cash.
I will have more time for chiropractors as soon as I stop seeing laminitic horses that have been treated by a chiropractor for a back problem. Unfortunately it doesn't look like this day is coming any time soon.
