My mare has bone spavins and Proximal suspensory desmitis (PSD) in her hinds. She is still in work (hacking, pleasure rides and driving) and I wondered if she would be helped or made more comfortable wearing support boots?

I'm rather ignorant on the types of boots that are available, other than brushing boots, so would appreciate some guidance.:o

I used Professional Choice Sports Medicine Boots at my Vets recommendation when one of mine damaged her hind suspensory. I used them on all 4 legs in the end, and I think they're fabulous. They support all the tendons and ligaments, are breathable, have the support strap under the fetlock and massively reduce the concussion to the lower leg.

They are imported from America so are expensive (about £150 for all 4) and were originally designed for Western riders who do the skidding stops etc when showing, as a protection against torsion and twisting related injuries.

The mare in question made a full recovery in the end, and went on to continue competing in the show ring. I have since used these boots on all my horses, as prevention is better than cure!
