What type of horse IS selling in the current market?

Good horses are selling.

6 year old eventer won first intermediate, turned down offer for 100k.

Who says there isnt money in horses?!

I have recently sold my elder daughters Forester (daughter has given up riding) and my younger daughters outgrown 13.2hh jumping pony. I just have the Connie to sell now.........

Haha, some people must have more money than sense to offer that for a horse that has won one Intermediate - you can buy a proven 3* horse for less than!

Nothing has shifted off our yard all summer, and we have the whole range up for offer from a perfect M&M lead rein pony through fab PC ponies, ordinary PC ponies, hunters/eventers, RC allrounders.......

Advertised on PC website, H&H & Horsemart and very few calls, even fewer viewings? Not sure what else to do really apart from sit tight and wait til things pick up.

I agree with safe cobs. YO was looking for a safe (irish) cob and every cob she was interested in went within a week or so of being advertised. We now have found one and he's awsome

Not sure I have a cracking 16.3hh hunter/showjumper for sale and had very little interest - only want £6000 for him but open to offers! But nothing! Only 1 person has been to see him and they said he was too big!

safe allrounders with a bit of flash for riding club etc are selling like hot cakes.

and good ponies in all size catergories that are going to keep your child alive and give them lots of fun.

there are too many horses with little quirks and issues and too many people with over inflated ideas of their horses worth as they have seen similar horses advertised at silly money- it doesn't mean they are selling just because they are advertised though!

My friend's theory is that good do-ers are more likely to sell in recession....one that's not prone to injury - so perhaps cobs, natives, and their crosses.

As others have pointed out good ponies are still going. We have just bought a 12.2 for our younger son. To get what we were looking for it was literally a case of checking the PC website, Horsequest etc a couple of times a day and phoning as soon as we saw something suitable. Still missed a couple even so.

The combination of safe pony with a good track record who will take a child to the next level will always sell and get good money. Ponies with 'potential' or who don't have the track record, or who have faults just are not selling however.

Ice Maiden i have just sold a fabulous 16.3hh 8 years grey hunter out of the horse and hound, the phone was mental for him, he was sold to 2nd person that rang up, over the phone un seen, for full asking price of 6.5K. The first man that came wanted him, but when he socked him in the gob over a 2ft X pole landed dead heavy on the back of the saddle, I told him he couldnt have him, despite he begged me for him. Although I bought the horse purley to sell on and only had him 3 weeks I thought a lot of him and couldnt put him through this mans hideous riding, plus the more he said about hiself he sounded like he was an idiot out hunting galloping all over not a care or consideration for the animal. Still getting mega amount of calls for him.
All those that have posted safe cobs are selling I would agree to disagree, my friend has an amazing coloured cob for sale, and has no response from several ads, also she has a cracking 14hh first pony and has had no response for that either.

Agree completely. My coloured horse got SO much interest, and I was still getting calls over a month after selling him. I must have got over 70 calls for him.

Just been to see safe weight carrying cob, aged 14. 15.2HH
they want £2995, do you think this is too much, have looked on several horse sales sites and seems a bit steep, but if you say they are in demand ?

Wouldnt know re. cobs tbh!

Horses are only worth what you will pay for them.... is he worth it to you?

I knew I had found a horse I wanted as I didnt even compare them to others on the market

Not much info but I'd say not expensive at all. I'd certainly pay that for safe weight carrying cob (and have done so).

Just bought one of these a month ago for hubbie. He is 16 hh though about 15 yr old plod. Was used in a treking centre so great to hack. Paid only 650 euro for him including tack.

I don't understand - you say you think a lot of the horse and couldn't let him go to the first person coz of the way he rode yet you then sold him over the phone unseen
