What vitamin and mineral lick do you use?

Just interested to see. My boy's a good doer, and every now and then I'd give him access to a Horselyx, but the amount of molasses in it :eek: He has a Himalayan salt lick up in his stable, but doesn't really use it.. In fact I think he's baffled by it :rolleyes: Anyway, just wondering what you all liked to use? xx
 
Mine have a himalayan salt lick in their field but Iv never seen them use it, and infact it eventually disintegrated (sp)? and fell off the rope onto the floor....waste of money :D
I cant give them the horselyx because shes a porky cob, and it goes everywhere....
On the floor/her nose/her face/the shelter/my face/my arms/my hair etc etc :D

Haha, that was another issue with Horselyx! The amount of times I had it slathered on me without knowing :rolleyes: xx
 
Don't use one as his just ignores them, had the same problem with the Himalayan salt lick.

Although my old tb was addicted, so much so the salt used to leach out onto his coat!!!! So had to limit it to a couple of hours a day!!!!
 
My good doer polished off horselyx in a couple of days woofed the whole lot gone!! It has molasses in it or it did years ago..all that sticky goo he was well stuffed.

So now just plain old salt block or brick type which I have mounted on field shelter but mostly I just put it on the ground...and as its only couple pounds lasts a couple weeks even in this rain.

You can get them salt/mineral/menthol too.
 
My horse loves Horslyx they do a few flavours and she loves every single one! they do a bigish sized on which is around £12 and a small one which is around £3 ;)
 
My horse either ignores them or will eat it in one sitting so I dont give him any. However, I do get the brick one and put it in the manger as that is the only way to get the salts into him. I dont leave it in all the time, I leave it in for a few days and then take it out for a few days and so on until it's gone.
 
Mine use the Badminton vit and mineral block well, though it is mollassed based (most have to be to make them palatable or the horse would just ignore them) it takes them the amount of time to use it up as the instructions say it should (actually longer!) so know they are not guzzling at it, and mine are good doers too!
 
I don't use molasses licks. Seems like a bad idea but what do I know.

I use rockies 5 star, laminshield, himalayan salt block, normal salt block with added copper.

All are used at different times of the year depending on need.

This time of year the magnesium is used most often. Towards late summer the copper one gets used more. The salt one is used all the time. I buy 10kg at a time. Lasts about 6months for 7 horses.
 
I give mine a horselyx tub when I bring them in and groom them- but never for a long period of time unless the restrictor is on. They always have access to a salt lick

I - who rattles on and on about diet and blah blah blah about sugar and minerals levels affecting hooves.....

I, who tests the forage and feeds bespoke minerals and mixes my feeds myself.....

I give my old boy a MOLASSED Horselyx Lick :O

He's had one for years and I don't feel fair denying him now :p
 
Just the bog standard Rockies ones, change the flavour for him sometimes. I tried him on a Himalayan salt lick once and I think to him, as a native mix of these isles, the salt might taste different :confused: (though I am not sure if the salt in Rockies would be extracted in this country or elsewhere?) but he turned his nose up at the Himalayan totally though lots of other horses on our yard go mad for them! I tried him on the LamiShield magnesium one one summer and he wasn't having any of that either though he's not known to be a fussy pony.
 
I tried the rockies blocks and himalayan salts but they aren't weatherproof, so just dissolve (that's what I found anyway). Add that to the fact that they (to my horses) aren't palatable, and I'm left with either giving supplementary vits and mins in feeds daily or use the badminton block. I choose the badminton block for mine as they use it correctly, if they gorged on it etc then it would be a supplement I'd give.
 
Himalayan salt lick in the stable, they are used & they last a long time. I don't use anything in the paddock, they are only out in the day & in the stable at night where the lick is if they want to use it. :)

He's very sensible with it and a refill lasts a whole year.

Respiratory horslyx but only for Physio exercises...if I left it with him it would be devoured in moments!
