It was mentioned on here some time ago that there is another drug that is as good as omeprazole but is far cheaper. I saved the link to the drug information as I felt there was a chance Lari might have ulcers and it would save a few pounds on the insurance. When Lari was found not to have ulcers when he was scoped I deleted the link.

Can anyone remember what the drug was called please? Thank you.

its Abler you need.

bit of a grey area re importing it but have never had an issue.

No grey area, it's definitely illegal to import but it always arrives, or so I'm told ......

The drug Birker is thinking of, I think, is Nexium, esomeprazole, which works with a very small dose compared to omeprazole.

Abler is cheaper but illegal to import (comes from India).

YCBM commented above but thinks you have on UI so asked for info to be passed on: "Nexium, esomeprazole, which works with a very small dose compared to omeprazole."

Yes I do, thank you.
When I bought Abler it came from America IIRC.
The problem with Abler is that there's no way of knowing how accurate the dosing is and how much of it survives the stomach acid long enough to actually do anything.
A part of the GG patent is the guarantee that it survives the stomach acid and therefore all of the product is effective (or something along those lines ).

They make the website look like it's American but it's not. It ships from Sri Lanka where there is a lot of pharmaceutical manufacture of generic medications, like omeprazole.

The US FDA tested it in the hope of proving it wasn't up to scratch, but it fell within the acceptable limits for a drug with a wide margin for error as Omeprazole is.

The Abler product is enteric coated just like oral Gastrogard.

Well I'd just use Abler then.
Although when I used it I'm not sure it did anything. Whereas once he had GG the change in him was obvious.

Why would you use it for a horse it didn't work for? Especially as it's illegal to import it.
