What was you funniest ever comment on a dressage test ?

'thankyou & well done for having the good grace to complete the test'

this was after my horse really lost the plot on a VERY windy day in a VERY creaky indoor school

i dare not salute at the end it was so bad , when the judge got out the car i thought 'OH [****]' she actually came over & spoke very nicely to us , i was shaking by that point!!

"Lovely changes - unfortunately not required at Prelim!" from a sympathetic judge being very tolerant with our former reining horse who did flying changes at moments of stress!
The same horse cantered through an entire side saddle equitation championship test and after the first minute or so I decided to just sit there and be part of the day's comedy act.
The sheet said 'Tactfully ridden'...

about my husband (not his fault , in a hurry I had inadvertently silicone polished the saddle area, causing the saddle to slip backwards and poor horse to do mini bucks to try and jiggle hubby back into position) In the end saddle slipped all the way round depositing hubbs on floor in front of judge:
comments :
"an impressive young horse who shows a lot of potential... possibly not the same for the more mature rider... though he looks good in uniform!"
We all had a good giggle including hubby. Strangely enough, we were not placed!

wow he must have changed - he was a donkey when I was there

At said college I did my very first elementary, which in those days had to be sitting. I then had Trooper a very large warmblood x ID with a VERY bouncy trot!

The comment underneath said: I think you need to invest in a sportd bra

From this weekend, ' an inspired ride'

now I wasn't sure what this meant really but apparently I looked like I was on a mission. Said judge hasn't seen me for about a year and I think she may have been shocked that I seem to actually be taking a little more seriously now- though not sure where the inspiration came from. I spoke to her afterwards and she liked the improvement!

I've had a surprisingly large number of funny comments on my few dressage sheets, although the most baffling of all was our first ever test (4yo ex-racer, petrified of white boards, judge's car, the hedge, my legs etc etc) - we did the whole test sideways, with his eyes on stalks and neck arched to keep an eye on those horse-eating white boards, kept snorting. Kept spooking the full width of the arena to the other side, and left the arena twice.

The overall comment on the bottom: "Sweet and obedient horse" ?!?!?!??!

!

If she thought that was obedient, I'd hate to see her idea of disobedient!!!!

After some turning himself inside out bucking down the centre line to which all the mothers and kids ran away from the ring side I got "shame it's not a spanish test, well ridden"

Torrential rain at Burgie (As always!!!!!!!!

)

Pony does ALL-OVER shake while trotting up centre line, to get rid of water.

Mark - 4!! - Loss of rhythm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(obviously NO sense of humour!!)

And remind me again why we do this?

Only done one test, and that was on Little Cob

. Not written on the test sheet, but afterwards was told that talking was not allowed

I'd rabbited and giggled with LC all the way round

(we were non competitive as daughter was doing it 'properly').

I await with interest the comments if/when I get Dizzy to one...

Harvey and i were just about to complete our best test to date, but as we turned up the centre line horizontal rain came lashing down, being a TB he just turned his bum to it and went sideways all the way to the end where we halted completly sideways to the judge.. when i looked up the judge couldn't seem to control herself laughing.

My last comment read "shame about the rain, your horse obviously isnt a fan.." in very shakey handwritting!

The one that always springs to mind is "reluctant"

Little 5 yr old 15 hh mare, first ever test in her life, hated the canteen window at Higcross, everything over the other side of the arena was fine, but near the canteen window, not a hope, anyhow free walk on a long rein going over to F, went from H to X fine, then mare saw forthcoming window, stopped dead and reared up!!! Was howling wehn I read the word Reluctant!!!!!

'H is not a jump'

and, fortunately in a different test, but same cob

'nice little horse, shame his mind was elsewhere today'

Needless to say, we don't do dressage......

"well sat, position very secure - unlike your hat!"

My eventers first ever dressage test as a baby at addington, slightly over excited-put in a string of bucks on the canter circle whereby my beagler flew off out of the ring.

Also love "higher marks will be available from a horse with obvious talent and potential" - no kidding, the horse spent the entire test on his hind legs or cantering sideways to score an impressive 56 at BE! (was a few yrs ago now and horse was diagnosed and retired shortly after with 6 kissing spine) bless the judge for her kind optimism seeing as he didn't show any paces!!

That was back in 2007.

If you knew how to ride him he was very well schooled and a pleasure to ride.. We did a couple of elemantrys too.. But in the test mentioned we jsut bronced and rear and jumped about lol!

"well sat, rather u than me but well ridden" when my old horse went down the centre line on her back legs then refused to go near the left hand side of the arena due to a donkey and a horse in a fly mask in the field next door!

My cob ex eventer once, after a particularly good test (the sun was aligned with saturn, the wind was blowing from the right direction and the temperature was correct!), got the comment "if you ever consider sell this horse please let me know". He was (and still is ) a star.

'Must not be allowed to snack en-route' during an early dressage test on the hairy cob outside on lush long grass during our free walk on a long rein!!!

All on the same sheet, one after the other...

- Horse getting strong
- Horse strong
- Horse getting stronger
- Horse very strong

Under the bit about the horses paces etc...

- Horse has a natural desire to move forward.

And under 'Rider'...

- Well ridden despite the horse taking you like a train.

This was after Genie and I had finshed a 4 1/2 minute dressage test in two minutes! I was just pleased to have done the correct pace, albeit quickly, in the right places!

'rather onward in canter' - a very polite way of saying you have no breaks. Made me giggle for hours after.

Had 'tactfully ridden' a couple of times too.

I've just rememebered another "shame about the spook, he never quite recovered from it"... He went up the centre line, got within 5 yards of C, spotted a plant pot and shot backwards (perfectly straight) back down the centre line, then everytime we went past C leapt sideways virtually to X, must have happened about 8 times!

on the take up tennis lines, at a spencer wilton clinic we were at he told a girl who clearly thought she was the bees knees to give up riding and take up skateboarding instead
smile.gif
did make me giggle

At Salad's first afflicted test at Hickstead the judge commented on our sheet that he was in wonderful condition....

At our very first test ever, horse went from forward and nice to that riding through treacle feeling. Kept it up for most of the test, being a right soandso, then refused to canter, I ended up growling at him and giving him a pony club kick. Judge put, use of voice not permitted in test (but I don't blame you!)

Bless him, we spent a year being last and next to last in prelims, but got there in the end, and he does a lovely medium test now
