What was your first horse/pony??.

My first loan pony was a 24yo 13.3hh black nf and she just taught me the basics really. Then i had another 6yo 13.2 chesnut nf on loan who taught me to handle strong ponies and bucking! Then i brought my first pony who i still have who is a 14.1 grey nf rig(?) who taught me everything! How to handle horses that nap badly, how to jump, how to race, how to handle ponies that dont want to stop etc.

A 14hh liver chestnut mare, around 28yrs, who'd done it all over the years and honest as anything. My friend and I shared her when we were 12 and she stayed with me until she was knocking on 40 and PTS. Great little pony - loved her to bits. Very go-ey and strong and therefore a real learning curve for us after riding school ponies!

Pickle my first and only horse!

Allthough I did loan 2 horses first

Guinnea- a 14.3hh welsh, who was very safe, completely bombproof, but only hacked as she just bucked in the school

benji- 15hh, cob, the safest horse ever! got my confidence back fro horses over 14hh! on benji. He was an amazing hack and generally brilliant, he is kept at the same yard as pickle and has loads of medical conditions now but still gets ridden at walk (so I still get to ride him sometimes! I rode him on sunday it brought back so many memories!)

Pictures of benji (on grass which I will never see again due to laminitis problems!)

My first horse was a 17.1hh chesnut Irish TB. He was an exracer and 12 years old. Then I had a chesnut mare on loan. She was 15.2hh and a welsh x tb. Now I have a 16.2hh bay Irish TB who also raced until mid last year.

My first pony was a 12.2hh ish New Forest Pony called Crystal. She was only 4 I think and had come from the New Forest.

I remember once I was leading her out and I slipped in the mud so she tried to pick me back up by my hair. I was only 5 at the time. I regret her ever being sold

First pony, and still got him, loaned from rescue charity he was an unbroken 4-5 yo arab cross who knew nothing - not even how to lead or tie up, was terrified of men and stables. I was 14 at the time and spent 6 months teaching him loads of ground work, he spent the next 21 years teaching me everything else - and still is - its now 'the care of the elderly' masterclass!! Have been told by more than 1 person I found my 'horse of a lifetime partnership' with my first horse. Despite his very bad start in life he slowly learnt trust and has for years ruled the roost (bosses everyone about!!). And it is him who got me interested in dressage, for some reason Brandy is of the opinion any pace is okay, as long as its sideways!! For a short backed stick legged arab cross with a skinny chest and a fat bottom, he could suddenly pick himself up into the most amazing paces - being the most gorgeous choccy brown colour (seriously the richest chocolate colour, only ever seen 2 others that colour) does also help him do 'handsome'

Planning on him living for ever, but think he may have other ideas

- would give my eye teeth for another like him!!

Mine was a little native pony. I still have him, he's 20! He was a bugger though back then. He had a terrible habit of running up a bank and scraping my leg along a barbed wire fence! I have no idea why, he would just take me there and do his best to shred me!!! Charming. Because I was young (and stupid!), I over-jumped him at home so he refused point blank to jump at competitions. I always remember never getting round. But Id be well pleased if I got like half way round! Then he got ill and had a year off, by then I had outgrown him and had to get bigger ponies. But I kept doing the odd thing with him - this was when he grew up and was lovely! Would jump ANYTHING at a show after that, shame I was too damn big for him though.

I very occasionally take him out now, just for a wonder round the fields. He can still be a bit of a shite - About 50% of the time, he'll still gallop off with me..... but he does it in such a way, the only reason I cant stop him is because Im busy laughing my ass off!!

My first pony was 13.2 hh Chesnut Highland x New Forest called Ollie who I got when I was 7 years old (he was 13) - he was a fab boy - except for an aversion to horseboxes and milk floats - the cause of much bolting and he had a neck on him like a Suffolk Punch !! He lived to the grand old age of 36 after my Aunt had him, then me, then Aunt's children ! So many children learnt to ride on him - he was a star !

I have a few firsts I suppose. My first loaned pony when I was 6 was a Shetland called Tinker, I absolutely adored him and through my rose tinted glasses he was the sweetest little thing ever. Only he used to buck me off and run home so I had to walk, refused to go in a trailer, knocked out the vet (he didn't like vets) and barged through everything. He also taught my sister to ride (she's 8 years younger than me. Had him until he was PTS

Here's Tinker with my sister

first pony I owned was Maddy, bought her when I was about 13 because she was in such a state and nobody liked her and we couldn't bare for her to go back. She taught me to stand my ground when being attacked, and to be incredibly patient and courageous! She's now my sisters pony

And my first horse, the first horse I have ever chosen and bought for myself is Flash, he's 4 and like the others he has a home for life
