I have always known my turnout rugs (all Mark Todds) as 'rain' (L/W); M/W; H/W; but my new livery and I became totally confused tonight. She has inherited a horse with enough rugs to satisfy Dolly Parton, and in the dark we were trying to work out, for example, what weight a 360 is. A simple rule of thumb would be much appreciated.

My rule of thumb ...

No fill = rainsheet
0 - 150g = lightweight
150 - 300g = mediumweight
300g+ = heavyweight

I'm sure others will be different!

I used to work for an equestrian retailer and we classified:

LW as no fill
ML (medium-light) as 1g-130g
MW - 131g-299g
HW - 300g-360g
Super Heavy - 361g upwards

At the moment if it helps my boy is in a 100g turnout - for me this is the step up from a no fill turnout. His mediumweight is ready to go and that's 220g. The next one from that is 360g, and then we also have a 300g liner to go with the 100g rug to make a 400g rug which he may or may not need.
