What weight rug are yours in?

Unclipped Welsh D out naked unless the forecast is heavy rain or gales, and if that's the case then it's a lightweight/no fill rug (which he's only worn twice this winter so far - but then again it doesn't really feel like winter yet!).

lol,weeeeelllll.......................... :tinhaton:
the 2 TB's have got 2 HW and an under rug on in the day (out) and a magnet sheet, MW or HW under rug and HW full neck on at night.

no wish to repeat previous arguments but both are happy and not too hot or itchy, and are able to gallop/roll/play etc so lets not go in to the *OMG HORSE ABUSE* thing again shall we. OP asked the Q and i will always anwser truthfully :)

those 2 are fully clipped and poor doers, and one has EPSM.

the unclipped retired unicorn bruce is in a no fill LW combo.

they are all rugged according to individual needs :)

TB a medium wieght indoor and out clipped but it's quit e grown in.
New ID medium wieght at night he's in an elderly heavyweight during the day it's the only one that fits .
KWPN medium in field , old heavy wieght in stable with hood if cold
fatty ( ID) heavy at night hood on or off depending on weather medium in field he was in a thermatex a few nights last week as he was to warm .

clipped Welsh sec A in a 100g turnout
Unclipped Welshie unrugged

No real shelter in their field but its been incredibly mild really

Naked! He's gone through 2 x light weight rain sheets this winter so far so I thought bu**er you, you can stay without while its still relatively mild. He's an unclipped TBx. Thinks its jolly good fun to take his rug off and play tug of war with it till it rips apart. Love him.

These threads are impossible to advise on. I have 2 horses in the same field with the same clip with totally different rugs on. They are both comfortable with what they have on but wouldn't be if they swapped.

Hunter clipped WB is out in a 350g HW combo rug in the day and in at night in a full neck fleece combo, 150g MW standard stable rug and a standard 300g HW stable.

Temps are about 8 degrees in the day and about 2 at night.

If it goes below about -2 at night I will swap the MW stable rug for a full neck HW stable rug at night.

He's comfortable in this set up.

Its not below freezing yet....
Each animal is different, some feel the cold, others dont - all regardless of breed/type/age etc....

Best to rug accordingly to the equine in front of you :)

Wise words.

Since you asked, Kali is in the field in a heavyweight with neck . . . he is fully clipped (no coat at all except on his legs) and has lost a little weight due to hunting/being a tad off his feed . . . I don't want him shivering off valuable calories that he needs to replace the condition he has lost.

He will be sleeping in his turnout - no point replacing a perfectly warm rug with a cold one.

Bib clipped TB is in a 300g combo turnout through the day and an ancient Wug stable rug that I guess started life as heavyweight but is now about medium.
Bib clipped Welsh A is in a Medium Wug turnout through the day and then a 150g stable rug.

It's 9 degrees and warm sunshine. Our boy (native) has yet to wear a rug this winter and is hairy and in good condition. I do have rugs ready if and when they are needed, but it just hasn't been the case yet. Not feeding hay in the fields either as the grass is still so good.
