Morning!
A question for any of you in the know with heavier horses (shires / cylesdales etc).
What weight roughly should Hovis be?
He's 16HH 5 years old and a cylesdale cross (crossed with Irish draft we think).
He's just suddenly filled out and looks to me a little bit on the heavy side round his tum! However i've not had a heavier horse before so don't know what he should be?
Thanks!

Weight will vary according to individual horse's conformation. Much better to condition score. You should be able to feel your horse's ribs easily, but not see them. If it is hard to feel his ribs then he is overweight. Likewise, if he has a gutter down the middle of his bottom and/or he has a fatty crest on his neck, then he needs to go on a diet!

The belly is not a good indicator of condition as it goes up and down depending on whether it is full of fibre or not!

Cairo is just under 16.3 and at the moment weighs around the 740 k mark - was weighed in at the vets last year.

He is a full clyde

This was taken shortly before going to the vets - my vet commented that he is about perfect weight for an older horse - when younger he was 790 k.
