I weight taped my horse today, which is great for me to keep an eye on her weight coming down as we start work BUT I realised I wasn't sure what her healthy weight range should be anyway:confused:

Can anyone tell me what weight roughly a 16.2 ISH should be?

Thanks and galaxy cookie mcflurry (which was just sold out ) for all!

I couldnt tell you lol. But galaxy cookie mcflurry was sold out when i went for one yesterday too:mad:

I dunno but I'd guess maybe 530-575. Not that you'll get that on a weigh tape. She's probably about 800 on there or something!

Nitty was weigh bridged at 499 recently and she's a 15.3hh tb thingy so I'm just sort of using that to guess!

No idea sorry but Galaxy Cookie McFlurry   They sound even nicer then the Oreo ones!! Think I'll be making a trip to Maccy D's tomorrow :p :D :D

Noooo soon they'll be sold out everywhere!!!

Well she came up as 560kgs and I think she's carrying a bit of grass belly, so fit weight I dunno somewhere lower I should think - although doesn't muscle weigh more than podge? I just wondered what the point was, other than a monitor?

I don't think there is a point other than to track changes. I haven't even got a weigh tape. Although I'd be interested to see what Nits came out given that I know what she weighs at the moment.

Mines a 16.2, ISH and last time I weighed her she was 600kg (with a dodson and horrell tape) and she was deffo at least 25kg over weight. She has lost a bit but tbh I havent weight taped her in ages, its on my to do list though :p Id say between 550 and 575 would be an ideal weight :)

Weight-tapes are not accurate in any way! If you are unsure as to whether she in under/overweight you are much better to condition score. If you need to know her actual weight the only accurate measure is a weigh scale at the vets! I can tell you this from experience as my horse weighed 140kgs more than with a weight tape!!!! (He is big tho!).

I personally don't think you should pay much attention to the actual number on the weigh tape. You're better using it as a guide as to whether she is going up or down in weight. Fat scoring is much better to get an overall impression of weight and makes you look at the different areas where horses can carry weight (neck, middle, bottom) - I think you can get online guide / videos that explain fat scoring - not sure where though - youtube, your horse website?

Ditto this! Weight tapes are great for monitoring whether a horse is gaining, losing or maintaining weight, but if you want to know whether your horse is in the correct condition then you are better to condition score. Individual conformation varies so much, it is impossible to give an idea of ideal weight based on a weight tape - some horses have long legs and shallow chests, or conversely, deep chests and short legs, for example, even if they are the same height.

I condition scored her 3.5 myself, based on her current weight and condition. Here's a pic...
