What weight?

I took Lucy, our 4 yo Weimer/Lab cross for her annual doggy jabs last week. She is a biggish dog, size of a female Weimerana, but a bit chunkier like a lab. You can feel, but not see her ribs and backbone and she weighed in at 31k. I remarked that she was 2.5 lbs heavier than a year ago and we both agreed that she had probably now reached her mature weight.

The next day I got a call from the practice animal nurse/dietician saying the vet had asked her to contact us with a view to putting Lucy on a diet as she was rapidly gaining weight! After we stopped laughing we agreed to go in and see what she had to say. When she saw Lucy she didn't know what to say - apart from agreeing that she was in perfect shape.

So, what weight do you guys think she should be?
 
Its hard to say without seeing a picture, but Evie was 30 kg last time she weighed, she is a top size (24" at wither) GSD bitch. You can't see her ribs but can feel them, imo her weight is about spot on.
 
I'll try and get some pics on, trouble is she is hyper active and it's difficult to get her to stand still as she always wants to "help" when I'm taking pics!

I may be gone some time!
 
See, I can't believe Evie is only 24" (I swear I've measured up both of mine at 24" but they look weeny in comparison!) and how the longdogs are all 30kg+ is beyond me, there's nothing to them. :p

I would take anything the vets tell you with a pinch of salt, Dax was weighed in at 27kg when she was taken in to be spayed at 6 months, she was weighed again a couple of months ago when she had a booster, aged two and a half, and was 23.5kg - methinks their scales are out as she hasn't visibly lost an ounce.
 
Weims are about the same size as GSPs and their ideal weight is 28-32kgs. No idea about what a Labs is, but seeing as you're in the middle of the above I wouldn't for a second think she was overweight!!
 
When I took Diesel to the vet for a pre-vet check prior to neutering(he was 18months) he weighed 37.5kg and the vet said he was too thin and bring him back in 2 weeks. When I went back he was 38kg and I saw a different vet (same practice) and she said he was a perfect weight.

I really think vets are so used to seeing fat dogs that when they see them at the perfect weight they think they look thin.
 
its impossible to say without pics... and they can tell a thousand lies!

my personal preference is to be able to feel all ribs and spine with light pressure, under a covering of flesh, the last two ribs just showing. ;)

Betty is an american bulldog, and weighs just over 30 kg. she is only 22"to the shoulder. muscle and bone are heavy....

with regards pics- betty is in good shape, but looks like a lard arse when sitting in photos...:confused::eek:

Tried taking pics, but because she's black you can't see any detail and she also won't stand still for a side/top view! (If you tell her to stay, she collapses in a heap and sulks!)

She is 25" at the shoulder, you can easily feel her ribs and spine - so I think I'll just ignore the vet and agree with the dietician!
