What weird things do your horses like to eat.....?

OK, I know Polo mints are readily devoured by most equines, and my boy is no exception. But here in Germany, feeding peppermints to a horse seems to be rather out of the ordinary, to say the least! I regularly have to explain that the The Cob has had the occasional Polo since I've owned him (just over 17 years), and the Queen Mother was famous for having a packet in her pocket when she made visits to her horses in training. :D

My last yard owner often said to Merls: 'Du und dein pfferminze!' (You and your peppermints), but he was a lovely man and I'd be back on that yard in a nano second, given half a chance!

Ooooh, and before I forget! :rolleyes: My carriage driving instructor would often have us stop at the village store to by a Twix. Not for us mere humans,you understand! For the neds, who really relished them! :eek::D
 
My horse enjoys the occasional little orange, likes orange peel on its own, also bananas and banana peel...

However, last week, in my ongoing quest to use as much of the kitchen peelings as possible (he already gets broccoli stalks, parsley and mint stalks), I offered him a few slices of fresh ginger root. He sniffed the first bit, scoffed it, made a "bubbles have gone up my nose" face :D and then asked for the rest of it!
 
We were hacking past the village church a few weeks back,and a neighbour stopped to admire knobberpony-who then proceeded to eat the flower arrangement she was holding.:D Luckily she was taking it out of the church rather than it being a new one she was taking in.
 
Kali is a greedy horse and will eat just about anything . . . except anything with any sort of Global Herbs supplement in it . . . he hates those. He once swiped half a prawn salad sandwich out of my hand and his previous owner told me he used to snaffle sausage rolls at hunt meets.

Dead rabbits! :eek: My horse is a carnivore!

When one of my friends had told me that she had seen one of my boys playing with a dead rabbit then had been seen crunching on it, I didn't quite believe her until another time I had to chase him off another dead rabbit...
 
Neither of mine are fussy, big girl loves oranges & tangerines, daughters pony is obsessed by drinks, tea, coffee, hot choc, juice etc. But loves the taste of wormer, goes mad for more when she's done & sucks the end of the syringe after she's done to get the last out.
 
My big grey loves tea and has his own flask and mug. he will also pick out the fried eggs first in a mix of haribo, and both of my boys like my home made tea bread and will mug you for it and they both like a nice cider at the pub after hacking :D spoiled ponies LOL
