apparantly they have taken tens of thousands off the supermarket shelves . i do hope they dont destroy them. there is nothing wrong with them , and many hungary people would be so pleased to eat them.

The trouble is that until the source of the contamination is traced they can't be sure there is nothing wrong with them. What if the horsemeat was not fit for human consumption???

I wondered when someone would say that... :D

They could barbecue them over the big bath in the woods.

this probably isnt the first time its happened, may have been going on for years with one thing and another . unless you buy your meat at source you can never be sure. mind you my friend swears that "porkey " in the freezer isnt the same pig that she took there !

The only to know what you're eating is to grow it yourself, kill it yourself and grill it yourself.

yes thats true, though, i didnt realise until fairly recently that a person is allowed to kill their own animals at home , but only for their own consumption . i cant get my head round that , surely the rspca would have something to say if a neighbour was in the garden one sunny afternoon slitting lambs throats ???

Yup, and tonight we're having lamb, conceived on our premises to a ewe who's mother and grandmother were born on our premises, born on our premises, fed on our premises, killed on our premises, butchered on our premises and stored in the freezer here. I reckon I can be pretty certain of what's in that:D

As for what to do with the burgers, provided they can get answers from the suppliers of the meat as to where the "non-beef" element came and it's suitability to enter the human food chain from I hope they will use it to feed the hungry. If they can't get assurances as to where it came from then maybe it could go to zoos. I'd love to suggest that they send it to prison for the lifers but I don't suppose that idea would be well looked upon.

You can only kill it yourself if you eat it yourself you aren't even allowed to feed it to the immediate family!(as David Archer discovered when he had a bull that broke its leg...Imagine trying to eat through a whole bull yourself!)Which is why so much food is wasted nowadays which to my mind is a crime in itself but in this throwaway society nuff said.

I'd eat them. Apparently ABP want them binned. If that is the case, then that would be the most disgusting thing to come out of this whole case.

This. If they could show the meat came from somewhere that sourced the meat properly, and it was fit for purpose, I'd have no issues. I am fussy about meat on the whole though- at home, mum buy almost exclusively from the local butcher and at uni I generally don't eat meat at all.

Even if they did throw it away... yes, it is a shameful waste but those burgers were only 30% meat to begin with, the rest was food dye and rusk and other bits of floor sweepings so it's not that much of a waste. It was rubbish in the first place.
