What winter turnout rug would you recommend ?

I like Weatherbeeta, and Shires ones, I have also heard good things about Premier Equine. Derby House used to be good but noticed a dip in quality and increase in price with them recently.

I have also bought ProTuff and HZone ones before and found them very good but not sure if those brands are still trading. My horses haven't done well with Loveson, Saxon or Robinsons own brand in terms of sizing and durability, but maybe that's just them :D

Best rug I have ever bought is shires storm cheeta
2000d and 400g fill

Worst is PE rugs - horrid heavy wet mess in the winter is what they turn into, the springs come out the clips too.

i like amigo rugs as you can have a neck cover or not.....and they fit my horse really well, dont rub and stay in place....also not too pricey..mine have lasted years..

I'm always really impressed with the Amigo rugs, all of ours have them as they just seem to last forever, fit really well and keep the rain off! Rambo rugs are great too, and Fals but they are pricey. I have recently invested in a premier equine winter wardrobe, so haven't got to try them yet but they look very well made and i've heard a lot of good things about them.

Mine have Fals and Horseware - both Rambos and Amigos. Very impressed with all of them but best to try their fit if you can before you buy.

Can't get any Horseware to fit 1 of my ponies, but managed to pick up a Fal HW silver interative rug for her at a bargain price :) the others have Horseware in all weights and they fit well.

I know people have recommended PE but I have found their customer service shocking.

Bucas :D

Just got my medium an Irish turnout & it fits like a glove. The Power turnout just came in for my large gelding. He's currently in a Horseware Amigo sheet which also fits very well.

The new weatherbeeta ones with the snuggy neck! Got on for my new horse
J has weatherbeeta too
C has a Rambo wug that's now going into it's 10th winter!

I put a lightweight mio amigo first have quite a few now as I wash them every week so he has a clean under rug on they are about £29 then he has his heavy weight or med and then I bought a shires lightweight with attached neck for about £35 off ebay and that go's over the top to keep all clean and if its raining ,I tend to buy one of these rugs every year as they are cheap and last well its cheaper than having your rugs cleaned a re proofed every year as I don't believe they stay waterproof no matter how you re-proof .

I have there standard saxon 180g one for my mare. It's so good for chilly days that aren't too yuk. Fits her well too. She is quite slight and leggy. But it covers her without being too baggy!

That's the one my Welshie has too Pip-dog - great little rugs.
We've also got an ancient one with the legstraps stripped off which has been 'recycled' into a stable rug - never rubbed my mare. I have the rain-sheet as well and that fits the same. We got a rainsheet for the standard shetland and it's fitting her too.

I'm tempted to get her another one with a neck. She has a masta avante one. It's 340g. So don't think she will need that until weather is truly awful!
