I am banned from going downstairs today - I tried to go to work on Thursday, after breaking leg on Tue - and it was a bad mistake - it hurts more now than when i did it!

Anyway i am sure our vets have had this bit campaign on for worming on the 5th Nov - and i was just going to order the wormers but cant remember the name of them.

p.s. hubby took my credit card off me, but i can remember the number on the back and i have a statement in my bag ---- so bad luck hubby :)

Hi GW
Sorry to hear about your leg. :( Wishing you a speedy recovery (well, as much as possible) and hope the pain goes soon.
You'll be needing to worm for tapeworm at this time of year, so, Equest Pramox, Pyratape P(double dose), Strongid P (double dose), Eqvalan Duo, Equimax or Equitape (this one does tapeworm only, you'd need to use another wormer as well for other worm species).
I'll PM you a link to a site with a worming calendar plus info on different wormers, (it might be seen as "advertising" so I don't want to post the link here, just in case :)).

It's the time to do them for tapeworm, so I have just given mine Pramox too. I normally worm count them and Equitape them instead, but we have a new boy so we dosed them for everything.

Thanks - i usually worm count, but was told that even if you do you need to do em for tapes at least once a year.

The equest seams to be most popular - but without checking i think you have to change every year dont you to something that the worms do not become resiliant too

GW

My yo gave me equest pramox today as well, she sorts all the worming out with the vet and we have to do a worm count every so often as well.

Gingerwitch - make sure you get Equest PRAMOX and not just normal Equest, as the normal one doesn't touch tapeworm :)

As for worm counting - no, as you say you cannot do a faecal egg count for tapeworm. This is only done by blood testing and so is why those of us who use counts as routine still need to use Equitape at least, in autumn and spring.

I worm for tape in April and September. After first frost I worm for BOTS and encysted red worm Equest or Equalan. I worm again for red worm before the end of winter.

Oh, and because I use counts as routine I don't bother changing as I rarely have to worm them anyway!

Look at HHO News. A recent survey of worming which highlighted the risk of just doing worm counts. Worm counts do not show encysted red worm which is the most common cause of winter colic.
