Just contemplating as need to get mine done. I got a bit sidetracked, but will get them done on Saturday. Oh what joy. Dizz is a dingbat - I usually end up swinging from her head and pushing the plunger in with my breastbone! Tried all sorts of tricks with her, but as soon as she gets a whiff of that wormer....

Aah Mrs M - you can't go swinging from horse's necks the week you got your brace off. you'll have to delegate! Shame eh, you can only watch as someone else swings away!

Tapewormed about a week ago, by syringe. Rest of the year herbal wormer, i'm planning on sending a poo sample away in the near future. I'm lucky that my boy just puts up with me poking his wormer in his mouth, he dosent even try and spit it out after either. My friends horse is fussier but also greedy so she puts it on top of his feed and stands him next to another horse and he woofs it down before he has realised :D

They've had zero counts so far, but new land and the what's it one (that I can't remember), so zapping we go :D.

Tried it in her food - she ate round it! Flipping mare. The other two aren't too bad in comparison :D

Ours are manageable until you et to the 17h hunter who needs more than one syringe, and is well ready for you by the second one (and has a slippy, yukky tongue by that point too!). Unfortunately I've got a sicknote too, so someone else gets to do it! My hubby will get the job, and doesn't struggle or swing at all, being 6'4". He usually makes me do it just for the laugh!

I don't (or at least haven't in ages) get my horse worm counted and she is totally worm free so no need to worm.

Better than worming because it's time to. if your horse has no worms then you are stripping the gut for no reason.

A worm count does not tell you anything about tapeworm. You should either worm for tape or blood test.

I delegate to my daughter's instructor. She is amazingly quick and just lifts the pony's head right up high, with a hand under the chin of the headcollar, and it's in and the pony's head is back down again with him making a strange expression and working his tongue round as if to say 'Im sure there was a funny taste at the back of my throat just then'.

We last used Equest Pramox in the spring, but then as they had really low worm counts and we poo pick daily I tried the Verminex herbal one in the summer - we used to use it on our chickens and it worked really well on them. Am just about to do another worm count, to see how we're doing and decide what to do next.

That's the one I can never remember! Just knew it needed doing :). As LC is now needle phobic, easier all round to zap 'em :)

Promox is the one I was going for, but it's interesting to see what others are using :D

Right. Must away. Will reply properly later :D

Thank you :D :D

They have been blood tested for tape and again clear, we rotate grazing with sheep and cows and have chickens on the field.

Any new horse on the yard is in isolation until fully wormed and then blood test and worm count done.

We test regularly as horse is out competing during the summer and grazing when out.

So far still worm free six years on.

I tried the equimax tablets this time as I can get the dose correct, one of mine is over 700kilos, both took the first tablet as a sweet then realised what it was, so I had to stick them in their feet, funnily they ate them in their feed but wont eat normal paste in the feed. Brilliant invention! Shame equest don't do tablets!!

Last week- Equitape for Tapeworm for older ones and double dose Pyratape P for the yearling.

Next time they will all get 5 day Guard.

i'ev literally just worm counted and awaiting results - usually though - pramox now and again in spring - i've never bothered with anything else tbh.... even before worm counts :o

Pramox for me too, my horse weirdly loves it. To the point that I dropped some on the floor last time I wormed and he licked it up. He does eat his bedding though (cardboard) so he is a bit special.
