I HAVE A BLACKSMITH EVERY 6 WEEKS, and this time i have a 14months old appy filly and he trimmed her and noticed a day later i noticed she was lame i checked her everything loooked ok,,checked today and her frogs all 4 YES ALL 4 FROGS are like fire they are red raw,she is now unable to walk:( very ridiculously lame they are soo saw and are red hot thnks for any advise

I would give him a call and ask for his comments on the matter.
My farrier would be horrified if I reported him without giving him an opportunity to either comment or put things right.

Agree with above, give him a ring and ask him to come out and have a look, bit harsh to report him without speaking him to him 1st,i understand how you must be feeling but speak to him 1st

(Have you telephoned him then??)If yes... then yes....if he is refusing to come out, dosnt matter were he is,if he has caused the problem he should be keen to come and at least try and rectify it

If that is his attitude get rid

Why is your farrier so far away? Isnt there a more local one? Why wouldnt he come back? Surely if you had lost a shoe or had a horse with an abscess he would come out and if he wouldn't then you should change your farrier.
I would ring him and see what he says.

p.s. Is the letter "u" broken on your keyboard?

then if you have phoned and he is refusing to come out report him....i personally would have a vet look at them because you may need proof for them to take action...they will back farriers to the hilt unless you have proof, was talking to my farrier about this not so long ago

(unless of course he has alot of complaints against his name??)

i'm sorry but i would report him!!
you have asked for him to come back out to your filly which he wont do, he was able to travel the hour to your's in the first place so why not now? i think he probabley knew he had taken to much off!!
i would try and speak to another farrier to see if he could do anything to easy your fillies pain and i wouldnt use the o/f again.

I think she needs the vets advice at least - can you phone and tell them what happened? - she might need cold tubbing or a poultice or bute or something else.... or her feet padding up or box rest with a huge shavings bed to rest on. Just thinking out loud as I have not had this situation, but if her feet have been taken back that far she might get bruised soles leading to laminitis or an abcess. If the farrier wont come back, and you have phone him then I think you are justified in reporting him.

You've contacted your farrier, told him the problem & he refuses to come out & see your horse. You've given him 'the right to reply' but he has declined to attend.

Your horse needs medical help so call out your vet. Additionally following your vet seeing your horse you will have the independent evidence of a professional person as to what has been done to your horses feet & that will back up any complaint you make. Additionally have a camera with you when the vet comes out to examine & take loads of photos, again this is good evidence. Then contact:
http://www.wcf.org.uk/

In the mean time I hope your vet can relieve your horse's pain & it doesn't lead to lasting damage. Good Luck

Get the vet out and see if he can do anything for the filly's pain, poor thing. I would swap farriers, unnacceptable imo. If a horse went lame after my farrier had been (Which has happened to a friend), said farrier was back up that evening after all of his calls to make sure the shoe was on correctly. He was there for over an hour checking the hoof and doing tests, and re-shoeing etc.and refused to take any money for it!!

QR - Id get a new farrier if i was you. As for reporting them as someone said above - you will only have a leg to stand on if a shoe has been fitted by said farrier. Anything else they dont wanna know about - been there done it - about as useful as the RSPCA.

I would still be reporting him. Even if nothing is done (and they all make mistakes), if this is a regular occurrence, they need to know.

why was he trimming her frogs?

if she is obviously unshod i cant see any reason why he would be trimming frogs?

why didnt you ask him what he was doing at the time???

if there are reasonable answers to the above, and dismissing the possibility she hasnt stood on wet tar during this heat and burnt her feet....then i'd be looking to him for some answers TBH
