What would you consider an Ex-racehorse to be?

Well my little former racehorse was a Group 1 winner, raced in Italy, Germany,France & Bahrein (& UK of course) He retired totally clean limbed and sound, lovely conformation & is a very smart, tough person albeit very independent. Bought him to do ROR but after a year realise it's a no-go. He is totally competitive and the minute we point towards home he acts like he is going down to the start. But he is so perfect in every other way I realise I must just accept this little foible. After all this is why he was so successful - maybe I should have bought a failed former racehorse!! But I wouldn't change him for the world now and will just have to sell all my showing clobber. Think rather than "ex" any horse which has actually raced under rules should be classified as "retired" and the terminolgy ex-racehorse can be misleading.

I have been trying to bring people round to the idea of Retired Racehorse for years but gave up as even the organisations call them Ex-racehorses. Retired is much more dignified - for horses than have served their time, done their duty, won their races. Ex - I would apply to horses than ran a few times on the track but were useless lol!
